Re: New 500 Sport owner...

Cheers Paul, Had a look at your video and see you've posted loads with regard to Morinis. Will have to view a few of them one wet day. Haven't had a chance to set mine up yet but will be the first time I've seen my carb' balancing kit in a decade or more - no need to balance the carb's on my other v...

Re: New 500 Sport owner...

Taps fitted, tank back on and fired up first kick. Will have to set the carb's up properly as the tickover is a bit erratic but it now runs on two and picks up like a two stroke! Found a great guide to carb' set up on N.L.M.'s website - should be very handy.

Re: Armours stainless exhausts or tart up the black ones?

Thanks for the comments - I've used Armours way back for British bits and the quality/fit was way off sometimes. I'd heard that their stuff was a lot better nowadays but thought it was worth asking the question on here... I'll let you know what I do.

Armours stainless exhausts or tart up the black ones?

Armours - Anyone using them? Do they fit? Considering a pair as the price doesn't look bad and they'd add a touch of glam' to the bike... Alternatively, any advice on tidying up the stock ones in black. They appear to be pretty solid but the black finish is a bit patchy. Only ever used exhaust paint...

Re: New 500 Sport owner...

Looks like the gunge in the carb's may have been a red herring. All back together and still a fuel supply issue... it would appear that the electro magnetic fuel tap has been playing up, probably since we got the 'bike. I disconnected the fuel hose and checked the operation of the tap and it seems t...

Re: New 500 Sport owner...

So, I said I'd let you all know the outcome... the caustic soda bath hasn't touched the old tank sealer other than making it go hard, but the drop I splashed on the paintwork affected it instantly... Oh well, make way for plan "B" - using a 3D printer to make a new tank from paper! (I may ...

Re: New 500 Sport owner...

Caustic soda added, scary... I can't see how I can do this without ruining the paint (which will be a real shame as it is so good) despite lots of wrapping/precautions etc. I'll let you all know the outcome...

Re: New 500 Sport owner...

Cheers for the comments, I'll look into the Real Classic method further as I'm all for doing stuff on the cheap... might not do it naked in the kitchen tho'...

Re: New 500 Sport owner...

Cheers for that, I gave the carb's a quick spoodle and replaced various bits when it started misbehaving and it was fine for a while. I think the real problem is the ethanol in our modern fuel is breaking up the old tank sealer that's in there, each time I get it all cleaned up it's only a matter of...

Re: New 500 Sport owner...

Not posted on here for a long time. T'other half still loves her 500 Sport but has lost a little confidence in it recently due to a recurring problem with the carb's overflowing and fuel starvation. She has been stuck at the side of the road a couple of times until I've been out to rescue her. It lo...

Re: Smoking Engine - Any thoughts?

Not been on here for a while... just read the whole thread.
Is this all okay now if you've had the chance to, hopefully, put a few miles on it? For your sake I hope so - have had similar problems on my old stuff and the frustration can get to you after a bit...

Re: Bike difficult to start

An easy one to check that may cause similar problems especially as the air filter is missing - are the inlet rubbers leaking? They are not the best design and really need the air filter to support the weight of the carb's. Also, we have a running issue with our 500 that shuts off the electro magneti...

Speedometer trip reset.

When I topped up t'other half's tank today she went to set the trip to zero but we couldn't find any means of doing so. I'm presuming that there should be a reset knob that fits through the hole in the left of the speedo' unit, if so ours is missing. Is it just a matter of locating one and sliding i...

Re: New 500 Sport owner...

Well finally got 'round to the other half taking the Morini for a spin... I gave her some advice and pointed out how different it would be from her Harley and a few tips on how to ride it, she looked a little apprehensive but was looking forward to the ride. A couple of miles down the road she pulle...

Re: New 500 Sport owner...

Well, after some faffing about with the DVLA who "couldn't locate the vehicle record" despite issuing a new V5C a couple of days previous... I have taken it for a spin - what a shock to the system. The last time I rode anything that felt remotely like this was a GT250 with a Stan Stephens ...
