Re: What's that noise?

Cheers Ming - this perfecting business is an ongoing delight. The back half of the bracket which holds the lower chain guide has now broken away from the rest of the frame, no doubt due to the excessive vibration. It does look as if the bracket was only welded on one side (underneath), allowing it t...

Re: What's that noise?

Sorted. With my helmet off, I could tell that the noise was further back. The unbelievably diabolical racket is actually coming from the cheap bottom roller fitted by the local agricultural machinery shop. It's making the frame resonate like a tuning fork in a spin drier. Coupled with 16 year old ty...

Re: What's that noise?

Another possible clue is that there's a slight tapping in the clutch cover on tickover, only when the lever is pulled in.
Any ace mechanics out there ....?

Re: What's that noise?

Just had my first look under the chain guard, and very glad I did. Not the cause of the trouble unfortunately, but another potential problem looming with the top chain guide. It should last out the month (if I get mobile). I have fitted a cheap version of the bottom roller, but I'll get both bits wh...

What's that noise?

I am hearing a nasty screeching sound when the engine is on 'overrun' but as long as the engine is under load, all is quiet. I've checked the drive sprocket wondering if I'd feel any looseness if the bearing had gone (?) but there's no sign of any. All seems OK under the clutch cover, but facilities...

Re: Wiring Diagram?

Hola Haboola72, and thank you for that excellent link - getting to know this bike will be much easier now. This Kanguro is Catalan too, from Barcelona, and I can tell it has a strong independent spirit!
Saludos,

Wiring Diagram?

Can anyone point me in the direction of a wiring diagram for my '86 Kanguro please?
Thanks,

Re: Riding over oranges ...

At last it's time to leave the snow and rain behind and fly south again. Time to haul the Kanguro out of my friend's shed and begin the process of getting to know it. Time to explore the mountain tracks of Andalusia as well, and look for a good spot to grow old(er). I'm fairly sure the bike has been...

Re: Riding over oranges ...

So -- it's nearly time to start meandering northwards, back to the frozen wastes, and we are just entering a period of nasty weather forecast for our route. Maybe the Bilbao ferry will once again refuse to set sail, in which case we head for Calais. Neil came round yesterday afternoon and we gave th...

Re: Riding over oranges ...

After a meticulous search of an industrial estate the size of Wales, I managed to find a cam belt of the right size, though lacking somewhat in width. Since I only need it to hold out for a few days pottering around the local tracks, I decided to give it a go. With fresh oil and petrol the bike came...

Re: Riding over oranges ...

There's an SKF bearing and transmission dealer an hour away, just north of Granada, so thanks for the tip EVguru, I'll try my luck there.

Re: Riding over oranges ...

I think the application of some silicone spray overnight must have helped, (or the sight of a propane torch) - because the nut came off quite nicely once I'd locked the brake while in top gear. The extractor had no bother either. All seems neat and untouched underneath, the belt was slack and seems ...

Re: Riding over oranges ...

After what seemed a very long wait, the bike arrived on Saturday morning. The ignition lock was faulty, so we attempted to hot-wire it - and when we finally got the hang of the fact that the switch makes some contacts and breaks others, the bike started and ticked over like a good 'un. I rode it gen...

Re: Riding over oranges ...

I'm pleased to hear that you think it looks OK Norbert, I'm hoping the price reflects the fact that its a bit unusual, rather than anything else. I got my NIE number in Motril, at the Police Headquarters, and a local friend gave me a tenancy agreement which means I have an address here where they ca...

Re: Riding over oranges ...

Guten Abend Norbert, thanks for the cam belt information, I don't want to ride the bike until I feel sure of the condition of that vital bit. There will be somewhere in Motril half an hour round the mountain, where I can find one. As you say, the Alpujarras is a wonderful place to be. I've been comi...
