Thanks John, yes it is just cosmetic. I did think of fibreglass and filler, but theres a fairly large bit missing, and I think it wouldn't look good. Good idea about the clock, though ive got one on the bars at the moment.

Just a bit of an update. The battery I originally tried in it was a 15913, which fits several BMW's, and fits the carrier perfectly. Thank you all for replies. I counted 20 in each but not sure whether I lost some as they fell out! I was surprised to measure them at 1/4", rather than metric. Don't think I could get 22 in each, and agree with the "1 less than max possible" idea.

Quick question, How many 1/4" balls should there be in each head race? (1982 strada K)
