Re: alternative fork oil seals

Problem solved, after a internet search I found an Athena fork seal set ATH-FORKSEAL-019. Ordered, arrived the next day, fitted. The missing retaining clip took a little while longer to find, in the end I found one for a slightly larger fork, but it responded to a little bit of trimming.

Re: alternative fork oil seals

Up date on the above, I have since removed the other fork leg and found that it did have a spring clip holding in the oil seal, I say seal, not seals as there was only one! Might explain why there was so little oil in the leg. Update, got the other seal out, it's marked 31.74.42-7/9. I had wondered ...

Re: alternative fork oil seals

It has taken some time but I have got round to fitting new fork seals. "The seals, two per side" , " held in by a snap ring" but. not in mine. The old seals marked 32-42-7 were simply pressed in, no clip. There is a reassess machined in the stanchion presumably for a spring clip,...

12 Volts on the 250

The 6V lights on my 2c work OK but are a bit on the feeble side, can they be upgraded to 12V? Various suggestions have been made from using the regulator from the larger bikes, using a different regulator all together or put a resister in the sense line (what value?). If this topic has been cover al...

Re: Foot Rests on the 2c

Thank you 72. From the photos it would seem that folding one up from sheet metal would not be so difficult now I know what it looks like. Mind you it passed it's last MOT without one.
Are you going the NMM open day on the 27th Oct? Maybe see you there.

Re: Foot Rests on the 2c

Re:lower chain guard - yes there is one its plastic. Thank you. Made of plastic, "hum" maybe that's why it doesn't have one any more. If I get the chance to look at one some time I might be able to fabricate one from metal, maybe not worth the trouble though other than for the sake of app...

Re: Foot Rests on the 2c

Just a quick update, and I am out and about with the machine now. also fitted a rear carrier supplied by a member here (thank you Moriniboy), needed to move the rear indicators though. Question, should there be a lower rear chain guard? There are some "spare" fixings on the swinging arm th...

Re: alternative fork oil seals

Having only just acquired a 2c and sorted the foot rests I took it for it's first decent ride over the weekend. Only to find upon my return the front fork seals were weeping (there was nothing in the paperwork that came with the bike to indicate that they had ever been changed, so they could well be...

Re: Foot Rests on the 2c

Thank you 72degres , the photos proved very useful. The first thing I noticed was that your foot rest were more or less flat i.e. parallel to the ground. If yours could be, why couldn’t mine? As acquired the gear linkage was fitted on the inside, that is towards the crank case, when the foot rest wa...

Re: Foot Rests on the 2c

Can't think what it is fouling on the brake side, If you look at the photo you will see a small plate projecting downwards, at the right hand end of the the plate that carries the peddle adjusting screw. Its not clear from the photo but there is a gap between it and the brake peddle arm pivot, Howe...

Foot Rests on the 2c

The foot rest I find are a little too high - my knees are level with the top of the tank - which make me feel as though I am "perched 0n" rather than sat on the machine. The rest themselves are fixed to the frame via a serrated ring. it would seem that slackening them off, turning them rot...

Re: Welcome new forum members - introduce yourself

All legal now, took it for it's first ride, it's very different from the bike it replaced (a BSA c11g from 1954). First impressions it seem s a bit of a "Buzz Box" and the the foot rests are somewhat too high. Oil change and filter clean while the engine was still warm. Hope to go for a lo...

Re: 250 2c

Having just acquired a 2c I have been reading this thread with interest and there are a few points that people may be able to clarify. Tyres, there is a Mitas 3.35 x18 on the rear, shouldn’t that be a 3.00? Not sure what effect that will have on the handling – not ridden it yet, waiting on the DVLA....
