Re: Checking Camel timing at 6k rpm
Camblet changed and thankfully all good! Pushrods were straight and the correct length, rockers all good. The washer that keeps the belt on the crankshaft pulley was actually placed on after the 'small' spring which is odd so corrected that. Cheap electronic tacho and strobe allowed me to check the ...

Re: Checking Camel timing at 6k rpm
Hi Ming, That's exactly what happenned! Ghotly silence, followed by a coast to stop, i was hoping that the lack of a bang, crunch etc meant i got away with minimal damage but i suspect that's just me being hopeful!!! The funny thig is I've used the bike for a fair bit of off roading last year includ...

Re: Checking Camel timing at 6k rpm
Cheers Steve and 72degreees,
I'll take a look at those chinese revcounters, cheers! I'm assuming that a radically increased valve clearance will tell me i've bent a valve and or a pushrod!!!
Cheers again,
Jamie

Checking Camel timing at 6k rpm
Hey Folks, My cam belt let go on my Camel mk1 at the weekend, fingers crossed there isn’t any damage! I’ve ordered a new belt, flywheel pulley etc to hopefully sort but I also wanted to check the timing. The book says to check at 6000rpm but the mk1s don’t have a revcounter! Is there a way of knowin...

Re: Newbie Camel owner saying hi!
Hi Folks, I thoughts I'd better actually put a pic up of my Camel, piccie was taken a couple of weeks ago whilst attempting a little green laning during that spell of good weather. Camel Pic.jpg Since importing her in Oct I've carried out a few tasks: Forks stripped, new seals, upper bushes and oil ...

Re: 501 Camel Fork Questions
Hi Ross, Looking forward to seeing more pics of your bike when you get it! Regarding the oil and the answers in this thread, they all relate to the later 501 Camel forks that I believe are slightly bigger than the original mk1 forks and therefore may not be applicable for you. My Mk1 has later model...

Re: 501 Camel Fork Questions
. 480 ml in each fork leg. From the 501 Camel (electric start) handbook; 'fill each stem with 480 gr. Castrol TQF or equivalent' To be pedantic - the specific gravity of Castrol TQ: I Density @ 15C, Relative ASTM D4052 g/ml 0.865 So 480 gr will be more like 555 ml I think? Or to be on the safe side...

Re: 501 Camel Fork Questions
Hi Ian,
Great thank you! So it looks like I've lost over 200 ml of fluid, most of it appears to be all over my brake pads and disc!!!!
I've pm'd you ref the handbook you mentioned and thanks again for replying.

501 Camel Fork Questions
Hi Folks, I have later 501 brake disc forks fitted to my mk1 Camel, the forks have gold sliders with 40mm tubes and 380 stamped upon them. One of the seals is leaking, very badly! When I stripped the forks down yesterday both tubes/stanchions came out easily and despite having what appears to be a 1...

Re: Newbie Camel owner saying hi!
Great thanks Ian! I believe my forks are from the second series 501 square tubed, electric start Camel, just need to find out the specific fork model now. Thanks for the manual link, looks like i need circa 120 psi in my rear shocks. Booked her in for her first MOT Saturday, fingers crossed. Cheers,...
