Re: Assembly lubes?

Hi Mickey
Yes, I’ve cleaned the sludge trap (and everything else) to within an inch of its life, not taking any chances!
New rubber thingy ready to go, thanks for your opinion, appreciated.

Assembly lubes?

I’ll be starting the rebuild on my 500 soon and I have a questions regarding assembly lubes. On the face of it, they seem like a good idea, especially if the rebuild may take a month or so as in my case due to time I can spare for it. I’m especially concerned about the lubrication of the big end she...

Re: Sourcing bottom end spares

That’s great info VSB! I’ve had a look at Draganfly’s website , looks promising, I’ll definitely be pursuing that, could be a game changer, I’ll let you know how I get on.
Apologies for not replying earlier btw, life getting in the way!

Steve.

Re: Sourcing bottom end spares

Hi Anne Thanks for your reply, what you say makes sense, the blue book says to never re use them, which is why I was asking. Hi Fiona Thanks also for your reply, I am aware of the 2nd oversize shells from Mdina but I want to avoid them if there’s any chance of getting 1st oversized shells, I might l...

Re: Newbie question

Hi Hendre & Steve. Appreciate you guys answering, I have gone for 20/50 semi synth with added Zinc ( can’t hurt, can it!) Hendre, according to the in-laws you’ve had decent weather, wish we could have some here, sometimes this Island has it’s disadvantages  Steve, you definitely will want t...

Re: Newbie question

Hi Harry

Thanks for your input, you’re confirming my thoughts, including using an oil with ZDDP.
Anyone else have any thoughts/ advice?

Re: Welcome new forum members - introduce yourself

Hi Ming Thanks for the welcome, I can’t wait to get her out on the road, I’ve already done the belt and the shoes, the starter did work but as I had the cover off to do the belt I thought I may as well have the shoes re- lined as they were extremely low anyway. I also drained and re- filled the star...

Re: Newbie question

Thanks Hendre for the response, as I’m only intending to ride in summer I was wondering if a semi synthetic 20/50 might be the way to go, my thinking being that it might maintain better oil pressure especially when cold?
Any one else out there have differing opinions or do you all use 10/40?

Newbie question

Hi guys, I’m new to the forum, recently bought a 1980 500, I’m wanting to change the oil (although it looks like new on the dip stick) just to satisfy myself there’s no bits floating around inside. Having delved into researching oils for older engines I realise this isn’t as simple a decision as I t...

Re: Welcome new forum members - introduce yourself

Hello one and all. I’m Steve from Rugby and I’ve recently scratched a forty year long itch and bought a 1980 500. She’s not perfect by any means, look closely and you’ll see the red respray (according to the log book she was originally grey) leaves a lot to be desired, I plan to correct that! But ge...
