Mike.
"I second that emotion," as Smokey Robinson* commented when asked about DiscoVolante. It was a few years ago, though.

Ok, it was me really.

Re: "S" stamp on 1981 Sport engine?

My 82-ish 350K Sport has an S stamped on the crankcases, and an oil pressure switch.

You missed the fridge and the comfy chair.

Oh, and the other five bikes.

Re: X3 starter motor

Judging by my experiences, the X3 starter set up is a lot more robust than the earlier electric start bikes and should work fine with standard parts in good condition. Unless there's a problem with the standard oil filters that I haven't heard about (in fact, if there is, don't tell me) I wouldn't b...

Re: X3 starter motor

I think they're all the same, but in different ways... :D The solenoid and wiring on my late X3 starter is different and more robust looking than the one on my 82ish K Sport, and the starter shoes look different. The one on the X3 works, which the K one never managed. Were it not for the immense wei...

Re: Tarozzi rearset problem

Finally made it out to the shed.

Stumpy the Brake Pedal:

Fits with millimetres to spare:

There are kickstart extensions and there are kickstart extensions, though, so it'd be worth measuring before cutting.

Re: Tarozzi rearset problem

Haven't got a photo handy, but I trimmed about half the length off the brake pedal toe bit.

This has two advantages; 1) the kick start no longer hits it, and 2) when I inevitably forget and go to change gear with the brake pedal, it feels different to the gearlever when my toe contacts the pedal.

Re: Track day 2018

If you live near an 'MSV" circuit (Cadwell, Snetterton, Brands, Oulton or Donington) you could ride down there on a morning when they're having a trackday and get your bike noise tested for free; just join the back of the queue. If you ask the tester they'll tell you the reading they got (usual...

Re: 400 pistons

I'm pretty sure the Japanese market restriction for 400cc bikes was 60bhp-ish; all those NC30 / ZXR400 / FZR400 / GSX-R400 bikes made about the same power because of this. There used to be (not sure if there still is) a German market licence band at 27ps which sounds more likely for a slightly restr...

Re: Instrument panel options?

Thanks for that - I think I'll get an Acewell. I'm surprised the tacho would over-read by 50% - isn't that just simply measuring pulses directly from the ignition module? I'd have though that would be foolproof. I think it's picking up 'interference' from somewhere; I've tried using shielded cable ...

Re: Instrument panel options?

Yes, a clock is one of the most useful but underrated 'touring' accessories you can have on a bike. The old bracket was three bits of aluminium, a piece of thin steel and abut a dozen M6 nuts and bolts, all of which positioned the speedo in the way of the handlebar clamp bolts. I've replaced it with...

Re: Instrument panel options?

I've got an Acewell 3100 fitted to my 350K Sport: http://www.realclassic.co.uk/bikepix/morini15110602.jpg The speedo is great (driven from an adapter that screws in place of the old speedo cable, so no magnets to glue on) but the tacho over-reads by 50% or so. Nice to have a clock and a tripmeter th...

Re: How to test a HT lead.

On a related note, does anyone know of a source of reliable, robust and long-reach 0 ohm plug caps?

I recently replaced the two mismatched ones on my 350K with 5k ohm NGK ones and the bike runs fine, but I'd rather fit 0 ohm ones if I could find decent quality ones that reached the plugs...
