Re: Valve Timing

What the instructions are having you do when you rotate it backwards a bit, is to prepare the valvetrain to become preloaded. When you go around to the right side and turn it clockwise in its normal rotation, all of the slack is taken out of the belt, valve clearance, etc. Opening BTC would be corre...

Re: 501 carbs

PHBH28BS: 50 chokes, 50 slides, 53 pilots, 132 mains, X6 needles on top groove, 268T atomizers. This is an otherwise-stock Excalibur 507 with deflowered Excalibur/Camel/Dart type airbox with moderately baffled exhaust. Running a much-improved 39 tooth versus original 45 tooth sprocket. Don't know ho...

Re: Excalibur - er, it is rather cute...

I "deflowered" my airbox early last year. Took a few more months to get the jetting right, in concert with the 26" reverse cones. The head pipes are still stock with the trombone slide underneath. EV, I remember you saying you only had to enlarge the mains on your 350, however after f...

Re: Excalibur - er, it is rather cute...

Another month on, any new or changed impressions of the Ex? That 45-tooth sprocket became annoying, so I fitted a 39-tooth to mine, and now it feels right. In addition, highway speed is much more tolerable now, 5,000 rpm at 70 mph (113 kph). When accelerating, does your Ex feel as if it's running ou...

Re: Why Morini Fuel Tanks look so nice

Are you doing all the tank work yourself? I'm having a hard time finding anyone willing or able around Tacoma to reshape the topside of my Excalibur tank, certainly not at a reasonable cost.

Re: NewbieQuestions

If they are new carbs, take a look at the number on the slides, and compare to the stock specs. The transition EVGuru mentions is off idle to about 1/4 throttle, which is affected by the slide cutout. 40s proved too rich no matter what pilot jets I tried on my 507's PHBH28s. The 50s are working well...

Re: Kanguro / Excalibur frame differences?

Strange that so many bits were loose. Nothing better for a bike than an attentive owner. The sticker was missing from mine when I got it, so it was easy to figure it out when I changed the handlebars. How are the swingarms different? Steel vs. alloy, length? If you were to install the Kanguro forks,...

Re: Kanguro / Excalibur frame differences?

You mention doing a supermoto style. Does the fork valving feel considerably different between the Excal and the Camel? I raised my forks 5/8" (10mm) and installed Progressive Suspension shocks which are 13 1/2" (343mm) versus the stock 12 1/2" (318mm). Both of these changes have leve...

Re: Kanguro / Excalibur frame differences?

Since I'm determined to morph my bike, I've been comparing my Excalibur's frame with pics of square-frame Camels I find on the web, and they appear to be almost identical, except for the rear suspension mounting. However, the Excal has two separate triangulated attach points per side to the backbone...

Re: Camel Silencers

Which ones did you purchase, the oval cylinders or the canteen shaped ones? Got any pictures of them mounted or a youtube clip of the Camel running? What's the significance of pre-65?

Still no luck obtaining a right side non-e start cover for a Ducati flywheel/alternator. Anyone else?

Re: 501

I paid $2000 USD (seller's reserve and only bid IIRC) for my 87 model in Oct 2011 on the auction site. What's more, I had it shipped 2815 miles from PA to WA for an additional $650. I know this would seem like absolute madness to you lucky gents in the UK, where you seem to have as many Morinis as u...

Re: Non E-start flywheel/alternator cover

With so many variants, I'm now wondering if my e-start flywheel, once the starter drum is removed, would even fit under a non-e housing/cover?

What was the reason for having different timing reference marks?

Re: Non E-start flywheel/alternator cover

I don't doubt you, but I would have assumed that only the 507cc Camel and Excalibur would have different timing marks, since they have cams with different valve timing, L versus J, respectively, according to the cam specs on the Dutch site. However, they say the J cam went with the Kokusan ignition,...
