Re: 1978 Morini 3 1/2 Strada Marzocchi Shocks

The ebay bike is mostly quite original. Original paint, I would say. I am pretty sure that the factory did not fit the Sport badge until the disc brake Sport. The black mufflers could be special ones, or the originals painted. Handlebar choke set-up and cable-driven tacho could be rectified. The lef...

Re: Frame number

I just looked back at the 74 Sport that was listed on ebay (Queensland) a couple of weeks ago; pics are still there. It was frame number 04684. Another indicator for an early Sport (74; 73?) can be the fork dust caps. The ebay bike's caps are different to the caps on my 75 model. The ones on my bike...

Re: 1978 Morini 3 1/2 Strada Marzocchi Shocks

The 74 Sport recently listed on ebay for sale in Queensland; look at the pics on ebay (still there a few minutes ago). There are a couple of very good pics of the shocks; they are originals. They are the same as on my 75 model. They are only missing the rubber cap on the top. I don't know if 78 shoc...

Re: Frame number

The easiest way to distinguish between 74 and 75 Sports seems to be the fork clamps/triple trees. Early Sports' clamps were polished alloy; for 75 they were painted black. My Sport, with black clamps, must be 75; it has frame number 05958. 74 Sports might not have had the rear frame tab blinker moun...

Re: Original shocks for a 74 3 1/2

I often see pics of early 350 Morinis with original shocks but they are nearly always minus the rubber cap/shroud on the top. In Melbourne, Australia, there is a business that makes all sorts of rubber stuff (and other parts) for vintage Ducatis. Their website shows a rubber cap/shroud for early SS ...

Re: Clip-ons

I wasn't going to answer your question because I didn't know the answer (perhaps I still don't), but then I saw Tom's advert for 77 Sport Verlicchi clip-ons. Each clip-on is made from three pieces. Each clip-on on my 75 Sport (I think they would be originals) is made from two pieces only, without th...

Re: 31/2 Sport Specification

The 1976 Strada/GT still had the drum brake on the front. (Search the net for pictures. The 76 Strada/GT paint scheme was a bit like the 74/75 drum brake Sport, with black panels/white pin striping on the tank and side covers; the black panels were larger than on the 74/75 Sport, particularly on the...

Re: 31/2 Sport Specification

It must be extremely unlikely that a Sport would have left the factory with a GT/Strada front brake.

Re: Morini tank - which model did this come from?

It's a 350 tank; the tank's front mounting point shows that. With the cap's hinge position at the rear, it's probably 1976 or later. Up to (and including) 1975 the tanks had the hinge at the front. An undated factory brochure, probably from 1976, shows both 350 Sport (now with front disc brake) and ...

Re: Very early 350 Strada?

I contacted the vendor (Dave) of the 350. The frame number is A/2 03901. The Dutch club has a page on frame numbers, which for the 350 (GT/Strada) apparently started at A2 3000. 1973 production was 2125 bikes, so the ebay bike is probably from 1973. Last night I was looking at internet pics for 350 ...

Re: Very early 350 Strada?

The instrument bracket/warning lights and the tail light are 'wrong', but the front mudguard and the headlight are early and the instrument needles suggest 'early'. It is difficult/impossible to know when the bike was manufactured but the fuel tap positions suggest that the tank, at least, could be ...
