Re: changing capacity to 501
My tuned 500W has 501 barrels, 501 heads, a L5 cam and of course PHBH 28. But as said, these parts are dificult to find and not cheap! This motor will end in what probably will be my last project: a "pensioners bike " with heated grips, electric starter (my fist one ever) and after more th...

Re: changing capacity to 501
It´s not that easy! The 501 cylinders have a 71mm bore and Nikasil-cylinder liners that require special pistons (less clearance) and rings. You cannot combine for example iron cast liners with rings for Nikasil cylinders. The 501 cylinder does not enter in the original 478 cm case. So you have to bo...

Re: Morini 501 engine wanted
That will be dificult to buy only a 501 motor in Spain. Like Mickey said, it would be easier to find a complete (no running?) Excalibur

Re: Best 31/2 cam for all-round flexibility?
As far as I know, the L5 was only in motors of the 501 (Camel and Coguaro, not in the customs). The cams of the 500 and 501 have a samller "ground diameter" (350: 20 mm, 500/501: 17,5 mm). 350 cams like the M don´t fit in a 500 motor because they woudl hit the connecting rods, meanwhile yo...

Re: Best 31/2 cam for all-round flexibility?
The L5 (II) is very nice as well and obviously the best for 500/501 (a M won´t enter in them) I´ve never tried a L5 in a 350. I know some people who prefer the M inspite of the S in their 350 circuit runners. The great advantage of the M is a good tourque all the way without any leak at mid range, i...

Re: Cylinder Torque values.
Normaly I reuse the gaskets several times as well.
In former times I checked the torque after 500 km. To save some work (taking off the rocker blocks etc.) lately I do the same: a bit more torque, leave it some hours and then the torque recomended.

Re: What`s your other bike ?
After a 50ccm Zündapp scooter my first real bike was a Suzuki GT 250. Two years later in 1980 my first 4 stroke bike a Morini Tremezzo Sport. Since then up to now only Morini 72°V (1988-1999 without bike). And probably I´ll keep on like this. Don´t realy need other thing. Actually I´m going to build...

Re: clutch spring nuts seized
If it´s only one or twoo nuts that are locked I prefer destroying the cups of the springs with a rotaflex instead of using too much force with the danger of loosening the studs in thebarrel. To find a barrel in good conditions is much more dificult and expensive than a pair of theses cups. Cutting t...

Re: Just stopped!
To me the 140 ohms sounds like the main problem. A lot of carb issues turn out to be ignicion ones. My experience says that starting problems begin with less than 170, 180 ohms.

I also would suggest the Surflex set! They nearly last forever and you need a good dished one, as Steve said.
