Re: No sparks.

Found much the same on mine - a lack of advance and did a similar calculation (guess!) on the amount of slot opening required. It is fiddly moving the timing a little at a time when there is no eccentric or vernier type adjustment screw and also having also to reset the air gap as it invariably move...

Re: No sparks.

Just caught up on this thread. I too have the NLM pick up (originally set up by them a long while ago) and it was always a battle to start and idle as well as a lot of vibration. After looking and playing and trying to understand what was happening finally found that I had to extend the slots to get...

Re: National Road Rally

I'm doing the rally (as usual) but will be on my Deauville (as usual) - doing the Platinum - special tests in Leicester Coming up from Essex first) and then 540 miles or so in the next 18 hours would rather tax my mature joints on Miss Morini with clip ons and rearsets....... Also quite a lot of Mot...

Re: 78 Morini in New Mexico, USA

Welcome from frame number 14432 - Nov 78 in the UK, also a Sport but slightly different tank and side panel stripes - suspect it depended who was doing the job each day! Have fun and if going for clip ons then get rear sets - not necessarily the Tarozzi ones as kickstarts and brakes and footpegs rel...

Re: Cylinders different temperatures!

Despite the slightly chilly (!) nature of the garage I have been playing a little. No evidence of electrical issues, timing certainly as it always has been and plugs looked similar (rather rich). Tappets were fine on both inlets but front cylinder exhaust 2 thou too big and rear cylinder exhaust alm...

Re: Cylinders different temperatures!

Having acquired a laser type temperature measuring gun I too have cylinders running at very different temperatures - 120C or more on the back, 75C on the front - and its on the stand in the garage so no wind effects! Temperatures are measured on head/barrel areas rather than the rocker covers which ...

Handlebar fairing

Having just acquired (and trial fitted) a handlebar fairing for my 78 Sport, I can concur with penman that fairing mounted mirrors are useless...... They also don't look quite right somehow. Currently playing with cheaper end of Ebay mirrors, mounts and a different flasher unit (smaller bulbs in the...

Re: whats on the road

Look up on howmanyleft.co.uk look at Moto Morini and Morini - and then spend many hours looking at lots of others models you owned (or still do!))

Re: Finding neutral

Try Lasermaster https://www.lasermaster.co.uk/ and copy the drawing as a jpg/png to them - never used them but seems a simple way to get some bits and pieces made.

Re: Headlight bulb

Halfords also sell them reasonably cheaply, unfortunately my bike eats the dipped beams fairly quickly for some reason (possibly a dodgy battery allowing voltage spikes??) so have been trying to find a replacement LED to hopefully reduce bulb replacement. When the spring comes and her moriniship com...

Re: Headlight bulb

BA20D LED units are readily available on ebay and other sites but most of them are for snowmobiles ATV etc with single projector type headlights with dip being a dull main and are completely useless in reflector bowls. For a good beam pattern a point source of light is needed to utilise the reflecto...

Re: LED headlight bulbs

Thanks for the link, had not seen these. Certainly look a step (expensive) in the right direction by having a point source of light in the correct location for a dip to work, and the best I have seen to date. Can see also why main beam might be a bit weak, but suspect a MkII version will be along so...

Re: Electronic Tachometer question!

A quick chat to the god Google with 'MOIRA ignition' shows up a lot of stuff - ignition appears to be an updated Lucas RITA system by Mistral Engineering who apparently are no longer in business - certainly not an original fitment to Morinis! But if it works.......
