320mm disc

My brake upgrade was done by purchasing a caliper and disc from a Kawasaki ZX-10 from a breakers. I then made a hub-disc carrier from HE30 aluminium billet, (not quite so easy unless you work in/have good access to machine tools) and used replacement disc "bobbins" to fix disc to hub. I re...

Oil level

Dipstick fully in.

There are (were) two types of dipstick for the 350 - earlier ones with ball bearing mains ran with 2.5 litres of oil, later plain bearing motors ran with 3 litres.

Tank Mounting

The original factory rear mount was a rectangular piece of grey foam rubber about 150 x 100mm, and about 10mm thick, casually draped across the frame in the area where the tank was most likely to contact the frame. This disintegrated with time and left a sticky grey mess on the frame tubes and under...

If you want to have the disc on the right, you will need to either get a 500 or late 350 speedo drive housing, or machine off the outer flange to clear the disc/bolts. If you just want the caliper behind the fork leg and don't mind the disc being on the left, than an alternative is to use sport/late...

For what it's worth, the lock and keys for Morini's are made by Neiman. As 3 Pot John says, they are the same as those fitted by BMW and were also used on lots of the bigger 1970's Hondas.

Red light: Prior to the electric start models, there was no oil pressure switch on Morini's - I recall it was introduced with the 500 in 1978 (4 warning lights), and then on the 350's later. On non electric start models this light simply served notice that you had turned the ignition on (as if the c...

going onto one

Magnet: Set cylinder 1 onto compression - with flywheel cover off you will be able to see which cylinder is at TDC, and the cut outs in the magnet should point to the front of the engine. Black wire not tight: This won't help with your misfire, as it is the earth wire for the pick up. The pick up on...

Rev Counters

A Question: Paul Crompton quotes in an earlier posting that for a Sport "The rev-counter should red-line at 8500, rather than 8000". Now I've had my 1978 Sport from new, and mine came fitted with a (and it still has the original) tacho with an 8000rpm red line. So, does this mean that mine...

My 350 has a Jap regulator fitted (ex kawasaki 1100 3 phase). Simply connected the 2 yellow wires to the regulator and used 2 diodes instead of 3.
Should note that I have a later electric start type alternator without the centre tapping.

Throttle cables

Hi,
I got my cables from:

T Johnson Cables GB
5 Laburnham Grove
Banbury
Oxfordshire
OX16 9DP
UK
Tel: +44 (0)1295 250430

They will also make you cables with adjusters in them about 6" from the throttle which makes carb balancing so much easier.

Silicon and carbs

Please! NEVER use silicon sealant on carburettors, or anywhere else that comes into contact with petrol. Petrol will attack it, little bits then break off and either block up your jets or have an amazing tendency to find their way into the small drillings within the carb body, or both. Use new o-rin...

Anyone out there recognise BKP 489T?

Hi All, Went and picked up an ebay'd Strada last night that I am/was hoping to use as a source of spares. Having got it, I find from the chassis number (A/3 13350), it is only 26 bikes newer than my '78 Sport! (A/3 13324) The bike is complete with the exception of the chainguard, and is a bit on the...

Oil seal removal: Short of splitting the cases and knocking the seal out from behind, there are several ways you can do this without too much hassle. One is to use a small hook (the bent over end of an 'electrical' screwdriver is ideal) which you hook between the shaft and seal lip such that the hoo...

In the past all I have done on bikes when welding is to remove the battery from the bike. Have never had any problems with other electrical stuff.

I deduced that the carbs are beyond economic repair as despite fitting as you did 42/43 size pilot jets (Shows how long ago I did this - Phil Smith sold me the jets) and very careful balancing, I get a bad flat spot around 1/2 throttle 3500-4500rpm. New atomisers, needles and slides failed to help. ...
