Benelli news

Post by SteveMRC »

Just seen this news about Benelli, didn't even know they had Chinese owners. The 2.5 litre 6 sounds interesting.

Steve

The new Cycle News had a column by Alan Cathcart on the plans for expanding Benelli by the new owners Qianjiang (China's largest
motorcycle and scooter manufacturer).

In the works is an EFI DOHC 8v parallel twin of 750cc, which he says is basically two cylinders from the Tre. 88x62, 15 degree inclination of the cylinders. The first versions sound likely to be a "naked" street bike and a "soft" dual-sport.

Benelli has invested Euro 220,000 in a new rapid prototyping facilty
at the Pesaro factory

The president of Qianjiang says they plan to produce 10,000 bikes
a year in Benelli's new factory by 2008.

There are plans for a line of v-twin cruisers with a 2400cc
transverse frame six megacruiser at the top of the range.

They are already working on a 250cc DOHC EFI off-road single with
cassette gearbox. A 540cc single is also planned for dual-sport style street use.

There are also mutterings in MCN about the new Aprilia 750 twin as a mini Tuono?, not sure if this is a bored out spin off of the 450/550 twin or a sleeved RSV motor, or an all new one, but they say that it is to compete with the 620 Monster which has massive sales. Might this push Morini into hurrying along a smaller capacity range?
