Lack of Gas in France (Europe)

Post by corsaro chris »

Having just returned from a weekend jaunt in to France, I thought that intending trippers might be interested to know that the French are currently experiencing a slight shortage of fuel. The proposed labour law changes have sparked a little industrial unrest Sur le Continent and all but one of the French oil refineries are currently being blockaded by the unions.

As a result, petrol and derv are in short supply; we were fortunate in having a Total garage only 1 km from where we were staying that opened early on the Saturday for a couple of hours, enabling us to fill up with enough fuel to get back to the safety of England. The place had been shut on the Saturday, didn't reopen on the Sunday and was still closed on the Monday. Those fuel stations that were open had long queues, but it wasn't a problem as we only saw two on a 160 km journey (that's irony for non-Bristolians).

If you are travelling through France, make sure that the tank is well primed for the journey...

And it's only three weeks to the Treffen, with a long trip through France pretty much essential. What we'll need is a back up truck (editor David?)

Oh yes, the trip was great, we missed most of the rain and the GP was just great fun!

Good riding,

CC

I'm going via Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany and slipping into France with 40 miles to go!

I'm riding with (trying to keep up with...) Mickeymoto, so if he's OK, I should be too!

On my way down to Madrid I have to do about 1000 french km from the Black forrest to the Pyrenäes  That journey comes out to be more exciting than it already is

In my first morini life, back in the early eighties, I once got stucked in Sicilia because of a strike of the ferry, running out of money to pay more days at the camping. Hope this will not happen with the ferry from Barcelona to Genova again. Then I would miss the Treffen in the Black Forrest

This is a real reliability long run test an we will win!!!
