Interesting article. I did notice an oddity on the second photo of the 'early version' - a fitting of some sort on the oil strainer cover. Anyone any ideas?
Also when describing the Dellortos as being 'civilised on inlet and outlet'?

It's a temperature sensor (although not plugged in by the look of it)
Darts (and maybe the other kokusan generation engines) have a temperature gauge on the dash and this is where the sensor is located- screwed into the oil strainer cover, which has additional internal thickness for the boss.
