supressed plug caps

Post by 125H »

I am not at all familiar with CDI ignition coming from the mag/dyno era, the last bike I had was fitted with twin coils and points.
So was just wondering if a CDI unit and specifically the Morini ignition requires a supressed plug cap to work properly.
I think I read some where that it may be the case but there is so much theory floating about, it may be just another 'experts' idea. What I read and if my memory does not fail me was that without supression the CDI unit could suffer from interference, sounds a bit far fetched but who knows.
If anyone knows if such a cap is required please let me know.

opinions differ on this subject but from the factory they had unsupressed caps. It is easy to convert a modern supressed cap to unsuppressed

is in dutch but you get the point. just screw out the resistor and replace it with a metal (preferably copper) piece of metal. In the example a pallpoint spring but I would search for a piece of copper/brass rod that fits
