Round Britain Rally 2015

Post by Ralph »

Already getting cabin fever, anyone else thinking of doing the 2015 RBR?
not sure yet but leaning towards doing it, if I do it will be my 6th time,
I have done the National twice but that is over just one weekend and a
bit to intense for me.
I do fancy doing a economy run on the Strada, but cant seem to find
anything in the UK, anyone else got ideas of what may get us out n about
over the Summer?

Hi Ralph
I am going to do the Rally again this year. It is an education about the heritage of the UK.
Interestingly the forum seems to have disappeared from the Website.
Does this happen every year?

Yep I noticed the forum had gone, cant remember if it as done it before or not, seems a bit
of a strange thing to do maybe there are some upgrades going on.
This year was the first I have met other contestants 2 at way points never seen anyone in passed
rally s but have been told by locals that others have been and found one or two rally cards that
have got left at way points, did notice the points needed for different awards were higher this
year I have two silvers with around 650 points but it maybe they are awarding more points
per way point to compensate, not that it matters it's the research and then getting out and
finding them I like, you never know we may meet on the road.

I E-mailed Dave and he said it had been removed to stop spammers but he was going to put it back.
Did you see the thread about a Morini burning oil on one pot? think your's is doing the same, the fix
after much messing about seems to have been the float level in one of the carbs . I can believe
this as many years ago I fitted a fuel injector to a Triumph T90 and that burnt oil until I got it
running rich enough.
See you on the road.

That's interesting. I know the carbs have been changed before I got it. I will look at it, but only when I've got the starter motor side done completely. It does give me some thing to check with out doing a big job. Having said that I want to go inside the motor as it leaks oil and air from the the crank cases behind the front pot. Not excessive, but it's not the I want it to be. Onwards and upwards.
Cheers.

That's me in as well Ralph. Looking forward to it.
To be fair though, I am more interested in the North and Scotland. When I get back from Europe, wether on the bike or car, the initial travelling in southern England is horrendous.
I notice some entrants use a trailer to get the bike close to the interesting parts. Don't think I'll get involved in that.
Cheers

No I naturally want to turn north much nicer with less traffic,
don't fancy the trailer thing, don't really think it's in the spirit
of the thing, a mate camps in a area then moves on as he
runs out of way points but he uses is bike no trailer, role
on summer.

138 miles on the last run Strada running well no problems except for
a kamikaze pheasant that avoiding action had the front tyre squealing
missed it by about 2 inches 3 way points done and a cracking ride out.
Pic from last year as we are not allowed to post pics from the current rally till after it finishes
this one is just passed The Llama Karma Cafe nr Penrith on the left going towards the M way.

Out on Friday with the MT-07 doing a few waypoints on the Round Britain Rally, on to the M-way M55 after about 10 miles then a genuine 70 MPH
to J15 M6 just after Keel services, did 4 waypoints round the area then headed North for Whitchurch and the Raven Cafe, swapped
bikes with a mate for the last few miles a W800, how two twins of about the same size can feel so different is amazing, the W
is very like a very good in fact don't think they ever made one as good BSA 650, he thought the 07 was like a LC350 and the W
had a seat to kill for especially after 240 or so miles on the 07. It was raining as we came out of the cafe a truck driver was making
swimming action's as we fired the bikes up, did the last waypoint then joined the M-way M 56 at J10 then M6 North , I can honestly
say I have never been on a M-way under such bad conditions in or on any vehicle I swear there was a bloke on the hard shoulder building a ark.
Home after about 60 miles around a 300 mile round trip, roads were awash for the last 60 or so bike never missed a beat and
averaged about 77 mpg, how it does that under those conditions I will never know, gloves are still wet on Sunday boots had
to have the water bailed out of them but the rest stayed warm and dry, 4 points round North Wales next but I an going to
pick a day when there's no chance of rain.
