Starter motors

I saw a video of someone starting a Paul Smart replica Ducati. One of the new ones with the two silencers on the right hand side.
He pressed the starter button, walked away and then the engine turned over and fired.
Looks to be the same system that the Corsaro uses. I was just wondering why they operate that way

You press the starter button and the electronics take over. Same thing on the Ducati 749 and 999.

And my Renault Scenic Diesel. I think it must also be one of these "surprise and delight" things.
