Erratic Speedometer

Post by DaveH »

Though I'd post this as a new thread to assist anyone with a similar problem when searching.
Painting the wheels obviously required as strip down & rear disc removal.
Put the bike back together exactly as I'd taken it apart (apart from the new tyres :D)
First run out showed speedo reading over 100mph constantly !!!
Not such a big problem till you consider that my run out added over 300 miles to the odometer for a run totalling under 100 !!! (logged top speed in the speedo impressive though  )
Anyway, turns out the air gap between the speedo sensor and disc bolts was too small - don't know why that shoud be as I put the same number of shims back on as before.
Have ordered a few more shims and for the time being put a thick O ring over the sensor to space it out a bit - all seems ok now, but will have to give it another run later in the week to make sure.
