Luggage

Post by nicko »

Suggestions please, what it the most useful/easiest way to carry luggage on a Corsaro? The high level cans tend to negate the use of panniers. I have a tankbag but it's not overly large and doesn't allow for a tent.

Answers appreciated.

Hi Nick,

When I went to the factory in 2009, I found that all mine and my wife's luggage needs were satisfied with some cheap Oxford throwovers, a kriega us20 tankbag an a pair of gel seats.

I made some carbon fibre plates which I bolted to the silencer heatshield with about a 10mm spacer. These kept the panniers away from the silencer and also stopped them rubbing on the paintwork too much. No issues with heat and they were very stable up to very high speed. They didn't encroach on legroom for Suzanne on the back too much either. You could fabricate something similar from a simple strip of metal, I just did mine in carbon because I could!

The kriega tank bag was a brilliant purchase and was really useful. It was absolutely waterproof and quickly attaches to the kriega universal tank cover. No scratches or damage to the tank and handy to have the important docs to hand.

Dad didn't bother with the extra heatshield but without a pillion he was able to mount his panniers further forward and lower so they were away from most of the silencer.

If you don't need a pillion then I absolutely recommend the rack that hattech make for the corsaro (http://www.hattech.de) it clips in place of the pillion seat and provides a flat plate with plenty of mounting points. No problems bolting on a topbox then or bunjeeing tent etc on. Quite expensive but a brilliantly made, simple bit of kit.

Then there is the morini tank bag (hard to get now I imagine) and the Ventura tailpavk system for the corsaro but I've not used these myself.

Hi,

Last year I used a Ventura rack and bag on a 5000km road trip and found it fantastic.

Bumping an old thread but here's some options that might be useful for someone else out there.

SW-Motech have a range of both tailbags and tankbags that suit the Corsaro.
The tankbags clip onto an attachment on the fuelcap. It keeps the bag off your paintwork, very secure (including locking as an option), and can even supply 12V to your tankbag for charging the phone, etc. Unfortunately the Corsaro only seems to suit the small tankbags in the range (sub 10L).

I'd take a punt that this tankbag is suitable too, even though it's not on the list.

Long link. If the link ever expires, its the Quick-Lock EVO Engage. It's still only 7L but looks to suit the tank shape better. I contacted the Australian distributor (www.motorradgarage.com.au) with photos and measurements of our tank and they reckon it'll work too.

I'll save the Aussies the hassle of finding the Corsaro specific tank adaptor locally because they don't list the bike like the OEM page does.

I use my trusty Baglux Tecra tank bag on a Baglux universal mount and a Ventura rack with a Ventura tail pack. Lots of room, but along with a Palmer adjustable screen, they tend to make what is already a high centre of gravity even higher. :(

I stand corrected! ;)

Unfortunately I was only going by the SW-Motech site and the products it linked to the Corsaro. Just sharing research rather than experience.
Great news that the bigger volumes also fit!

I haven't actually taken the plunge myself so that makes me feel better about "taking a risk" on one of the other larger tankbags. I also hadn't seen the Engage XL... googling right now...

This is the non-evo ring: http://shop.sw-motech.com/cgi-bin/cosmoshop/lshop.cgi
and the bag http://www.biker-discount.co.uk/sw-mote ... -164-p.asp

The bag seems out of production now. If my memory serves me correctly, it was only available as non-evo - hence the non-evo ring.

PS: it is an adapter/quick-evo ring combination. The fueltank lid needs to be mounted on the new adapter - only tricky part is to get the spline out
and not to lose it :D

I did 1,600 miles and five nights luggage with the MM tank bag mounted over the OE tank cover and a 20L Kriega from the UK Home Counties to thw top of Scotland on the Corsaro. It rained in Scotland on one day, but the gear in the Kriega stayed dry - it was strapped to the rear seat (fortunately no pillion, unlike Tom...). The OE tank bag strap broke en-route, and these days I'd use the Strada for taking luggage over short distances, or the GP when going to Scotland, Italy or the IoM

The Kriega are great, and you can strap three together to up the capacity - well worth checking out as they are so versatile.

Good riding,
