I think the narrow chains are no longer avaliable but they are the same as a yamaha fz 6 600 did scr0412sv

For the post 2013 engines the 'distribution system' (cam chains) are scheduled to be changed at 45,000 km and 90,000 km; that's just over 28,000 miles. There have been several modifications, and the original service manual for machines from 2006 - 2009 scheduled a check of the cam chains at 30,000 km and replacement at 40,000 km.

Attached is the extract from the current service manual booklet, for those who don't have a copy...

Thanks Torque for the flywheel puller info. I nearly choked when I saw what MM want to charge for special tools. I've made a flywheel 'anti rotation tool' and was gearing up to make a puller but if my friendly suzuki man has one, that might be the way to go. I've got everything else on the list. I am going to nick your fine idea of using an old plug to make a long reach dial guage though!
I did wonder what the specific differences were in the 140 motor. So other variants of the 1200 have softer cams and single springs? Are there any other differences with the engine? I know not all have an oil cooler.
Thanks for the service info Chris. I definitely have the old intervals in the workshop manual. The bike is an 08.
I'll not get a chance to do any more on the bike before Thursday now. Very frustrating. Can't wait to see behind the flywheel...

That's correct for the 120 hp engines. They have different cyl heads with smaller valves, a little bit higher compression and of course different fuel and ignition maps.

I'm Ebi from the german morini forum ital-web, ride a Corsaro since 2011 and had a similar experience as you, Jim.
Some weeks ago, one cyl suddenly stopped working and I was lucky to come back home with the remaining one :roll:.

Diagnosis: Cam chain (narrow type) of the rear cylinder broken at 2500 rpm, fortunately nothing else broken, the chain was laying between the two cams, valves were closed.
The reason for this posting: It was a new standard DID SCR0412SV cam chain running just 5000 miles ! A closer look at the old 25000 miles chain and the new broken one brought these differences:

At the top you see a brand new DID SCR0412SV, below the broken one and at the bottom the old chain. I decided, not to install a new DID chain but to install the old one until further clarification. If pulled, all three chains have the same length, but the new chains can be pushed together 7,4mm and the old one only 5,4mm. I hope, that the modified chain set with the wider chain will be deliverable within the next months by morini. If not, an alternative maybe Borgwarner which was in a later Morini price list and seems to have a higher specified tensile strength.

Glad i went for the upgraded cam chain kits instead of the did sc ones Eddydog the old camchains are 8.5mm wide i think and the new camchains are 9.2/3 wide Ebi have you done a 09 map yet or one without the baffles in

:mrgreen: No, had some serious engine problems last year, piston of rear cyl damaged, didn't know why. Went back to a richer map 23ECMOLCORC (which you should try if you haven't so far) but engine was still not running at full power, then finally found this catalysator:

Ebi, Thank you very much for the very helpful and interesting information. Sorry to hear you had the same problem. It seems you were quite lucky though. I'm really hoping I've got away with it too.

Not yet I'm afraid John. Puller didn't turn up until this morning and I'm at work today.
Hopefully the wife will let me out to play tomorrow, otherwise it'll be Thursday. Grrr.

Managed an hour or so in the garage today. All set to have a crack at the flywheel, realised that the largest deep socket I have is 24mm. 3mm too small to get the flywheel nut off. Bugger.
Still, got all the cooling gubbins off and the front cams out. Front head will be off in no time.
Don't like the look of this though...

I thought the factory gave up with the bigger chain it caused other problems they went back to standard but a better quality ?

According to Stuart and Rob at NLM, yes, they are currently on chain number 4. Having changed designs and suppliers. The ones they have on the shelf are very slightly wider than the broken one on my 08 bike. Not much though (and I only measured it with a ruler while it was still in the bag) I don't remember the name of the maker but it isn't DID.
Got the flywheel and starter gubbins off this afternoon...
