Buying from abroad

Post by Ben_ »

Bonjour

Some of you will remember I had a Veloce a while back but it blew up and I have been riding around on GSX-Rs ever since.

However, the Veloce is the only bike I have ever ridden that I miss and lust after. Every other bike I just ride but the Veloce I would rather go out on my own and just enjoy myself. So, I would like it as a second bike.

Now then. I have been mostly disappointed with the feedback and support from the UK network with Morini to the point where I would like another but would rather buy it abroad.

I strongly believe that if Morini themselves knew of the rubbish support that the UK importer gives they would be disgusted at the way they dealt with my bike.

So, how easy would it be to buy a bike from Italy do you think and bring it personally to the UK?

I quite fancy the white one 8)

Ben,
I think in privately importing the bike would make a rod for your own back.

I totally disagree with the comment on 'the rubbish support given by the UK importer'.
3X have given a number of owners on this forum a good service and during my period of Corsaro ownership they gave me an excellent service and as good as any other dealer has during my 27 years of riding and 62 bikes and
worthy of note: any major car franchise.

There is clearly more to your circumstances with the Veloce and sorry that you feel as you do.

As to your bike 'blowing-up' I'm sure we'd be keen to know how and why?
Nobody else across Europe has managed to do this -Even the worst of the bike magazines.(Who have crashed them).

Are you posting on the Gixxer sites about peeling stickers, poor quality paint and fasteners. low re-sale values? and giving Suzuki GB a hard time?

If you import your own bike to the UK: you will still have to deal with 3X for any warranty work or through a dealer, supported by them.

If I seem a bit hard it's because IMHO your comments could well put-off potential buyers and at least as far as Morini is concerned: 3X don't deserve a kicking.

Hope you take this in the right spirit and safe riding!

You can just ring/shop around like I did to find a dealer that knows what they're on about....... only ones that gave me a warm feeling were 3x/NLM and moto strada, the place in wales didn't give me that feeling!

I'm v chuffed with the deal and service i've got, just looking forward to picking it this week fingers crossed

Stephen, how on Earth can you say you disagree with my comment on the rubbish support?

You seem to think you know a lot about me and what I am about but you know fuck all. Your precious 3X gave fuck all support to me via my dealer.

The Veloce I had let go, big style.

It had had previously 2 oil leaks, a head gasket failure been back to Morini for a rebuild and it still let go so I take offence to your comments.

It was a brilliant bike let down by shocking build quality and back up service.

Search back a couple of pages and you'll see the pics and the dyno run.

But, you seem to know everything don't you? Idiot.

Ben,
I'm sorry if I offended you and did not mean to 'get personal' -I don't claim to know everything and said nothing in my last post that I wouldn't say to your face.

I don't doubt for one minute you had a sh*t time of it with your Veloce and if it was my money: I would feel exactly the same.

The thing I had issue with was your comment on 'the rubbish service' which is very different to saying 'you' had a bad experience and I stand by my comments that: if you personally import a Moto Morini you will have to be linked to 3X, one way or another.

OR invalidate your warranty by doing any repairs yourself or taking your bike to Europe, on a trailer to get it sorted by the french importer -I know I couldn't take the risk.

I am not employed by 3X but I just help out in the 'Italian bike' showroom, often unpaid,( for my love of Italian bikes), escort people on the odd test ride and do get a lot of 'insider' info. which I sometimes put on this site.
I also feed-back the bad stuff and sometimes it has helped.

My experience with 3X and my Morini was all positive and based on events only a matter of weeks ago and I am aware of several other forum members who have positive things to report.

I can take being called an 'idiot', on this occasion probably deserved it.

Hell! we are talking about Motorbikes here, not the end of the world: even if you wanted a pink Veloce, that's your choice and hope you get what you want, from wherever you choose to get it.

All the best.

Ben - i think you are being rather harsh in your reponse on this forum and dont warrant the insults.

The Moto Morini brand is small and exclusive - that is one of the primary reasons why I bought a Corsaro - and as such the individual buyer should anticipate to have to work harder to keep the bike up and running.

I have previously run Moto Guzzies which have been extreemly well supported by Moto Strada in Shipley West Yorkshire. I moved to the Corsaro fo a bit more bhp and Moto Strada have been superb. However, its not difficult to contact Morini direct (I have by email & phone to double check the 3 yr warranty etc - dont get that on a GSXR!) and through the UK owners club it is possible to get most questions answered overnight.

So if you want to follow the pack stay with the GSXR, but if your prepared to work a bit harder at motorbike ownership and can find a delaer such as Moto Strada (or 3X from all i can see on this forum) then the rewards are worth it.

regards Nigel

All;

Bens' supplier certainly seem to have had a hard time sorting his machine out, and it did take time to deal with all the issues. As none of us except the dealer, importer and owner have the full story it is hard to judge. :(

However, generally the importer seems committed to Morini (although could do more with advertising and supporting them now that the range is growing...) and the factory certainly seem very keen to learn from any failures.

It very unfortunate that Ben had a problem and experience like this - however small the manufacturer there can be not excuse for bad machinery and I would hope that Morini and 3X will have learnt from this. Certainly I am happy with my Corsaro ansd the support from my dealer and 3X has been all that I would wish for...

Good luck with the search - and as a friend of mine takes his Voxan back to a French dealer for servicing etc., all I can say to that idea, is "whats wrong with that?"

Good riding!

All,
I was a bit hard in my earlier e-mail to Ben and have since apologised.

We can all learn from the posts on these forums and at the end of the day, let none of us forget: It us our money we are spending and we can vote with our feet.

Still not sure I 'd want to travel to France to get my bike serviced - Chris!
