Maniac Motors - feedback following visit to shop in nurnberg

Post by nfitz »

Folloiwng threads on this forum to MANIAC MOTORS http://www.maniacmotors.de/motomorini/ for exhausts, crash bungs & add-on screen I took the oportunity whilst on a business trip earlier this week in Nurenburg to visit their shop. They have a small unit amongst other automotive specialists in what was Germany largest gas oven manufacturer (no bad jokes intended) in the 1930's aproximately 5 min away from the airport.
They specialise in BENELI, MV & MORINI having sold 24 CORSARO's in the last year! The mechanic speaks perfect ienglish and spent 7 years at Ducati in Italy. They were verry to happy let me into their workshops and talk Morini's about which they were extreemly positive and knowlegable. Their wall was covered in emails from ocustomers as far as Spain who ride their bikes over to be worked on.
MANIAC seem to specialise in fitting and setting up bikes for extra performance with 3 CORSARO's in the shop having QD (no cat) downpipes and a choise of 3 end pipes (see their web page). They then fit a power comander3 and re-map the origional ECU. MANIAC say that the "race" ECU fom MORIN is locked and so pigy-back the Power comander. Their reccomendation is not to just chane the end cams as the downpipe/CAT and map change makes the larges improvements and they would expect to see c.a. 140bhp at the rear wheel if the whole system is changed.
I also noticed one CORSARO fitted with a "quickshift" linked to to the power comander to allow up-shifts on full throttle without clutch! - verry brave.
I treated myself to a set of crash-bungs (150Euro) which came with all fixings etc.. NOTE in Germay VAT is 19% but if you buy fro the UK through a company this is deducted.
I will email MANIAC for a cost breakdown to fit a full exhaust system with powercomander and dyno, and put the reply on this thread for those interested - they need 2-3 days on the bike to do this ... nice short break to germany at the end of the year if funds permit.

Hi Nfitz,
Alex is indeed a wizard and more , keeps his promises : I have an early 2006 ,with the typical problems ,partly solved by the updates ,others not as the first cold start problem ; tired to wait for any support from Luxemburger import ( dealers stayed in the cold ,also nothing moved)
So ,race CPU, powercommander( already had decat QD ) and termis on ,
and most of all finetuning (syncro injection) totaly changed the bike.
With an LCD added to powercommander I can manage to change mappings on the bike ( standard, but also fueloptimized( with identical riding conditions from 200 to 230km, or full power /circuit/ and finally rain mapping)
Finally ,with a second CPU change the bike do what it should do ever : starting under any circumstances

But not only the almost 140HP rearwheel impressed , much more the smoothness & couple ( into 2000/4000 rvs) .That work, including personnal pick up of my bike at home (650km) and without the extra for 2hnd /as new termis was chargedat +-1000€ :I did get my bike back while I had to visit a diecasting customer of me in Nürnburg : it's indeed a total other approach in showroom /facility. at that occasion I took the progressive spring kit from Wilbers back.
Meanwhile all small problems are solved with mail & packages : the German importer März has an excellent followup for parts; I had a broken (second time) fan , crack into cockpit , cool procedure : I send them by post ,into days after colis back at my door.
Who's interested in dyno curves before /after can send a pm.

Glad to hear someone personaly knows them and that my impressions were right.

My plan is to 1st buy the power comander3 and have it set-up on hte standard Corsaro exhusts and factory ECU in the UK.

Then next year wehn my funds permit i will buy a full exhaust system and have it re-mapped to suit the change.

what do you think? What exhust system would you reccomend? What is available?
So far I know of Termi, GRP, HPE and QD (cant see themon their www though) and roumors have it that there is a MICRON and ZARD end cans available -
As for the downpipe with CAT removed I think only Termi (from MMM competiion site) and QD (again not on their www) make them.

What have you seen and heard?
