Ok so the service symbol has just come on the bike at just over 4000 miles
Anyone know what this service entails as if its just oil, filter, check other fluids, sparks, pads etc Im doing it myself.
Cheers

Re: 4K service
Odd interval that, although not that odd as mine came on at about 4k too!
My Corsaro service book (which includes lines for 9 1/2 spoke checking so must be universal) lists:
1500km: replace Oil & filter
10,000km: replace Oil, filter, spark plugs
check/adjust: oil mesh filter, air filter, throttle cable, throttle sync, slipperclutch, tappets, hydraulic/coolant lines, brake pads & discs, forks, steering play, wheel bearings, fan, idle speed, lights, exhaust, nut and bolt check, wheel (& spoke) torque.
also at 10,000km/24 months: replace brake & clutch fluid, fork oil, coolant
20,000km is same as 10,000km.
I suspect there is confusion between miles/km- possibly the dash works internally in km only- 10,000km is about 6200 miles- 6200km is just shy of 4000 miles . so if 6200 was put in for the next service (to represent 10,000km) but the dash works in km then the service light will come on at 6200km (or around 4000 miles)...
I'm ignoring mine until I reach a true 10,000km, although a clarification with the dealer would probably be sensible.
Anyone else experienced this?

Re: 4K service
Hi Tom,
Thanks for the reply, glad Im not the only one then.
Went round to my local service guru, Moto-tech, as there is no MM dealer over here, and spoke to him and he said unless it wants serviced because its been 6 months since the last one, guess thats possible, BMW's now flash after a yr even if they havent hit the miles, one way to get money out of you.
On the plus side, he said it wont hinder performance, its not gona go into some kind of safe mode and only give you 6000rpm for example.
So next week I've to take it round, plug it into the comp and make it think that service was met and leave it for a few miles yet.
Happy days.
Would love to know if this is a common fault though.
Cheers

Re: 4K service
Guys;
Not a fault at all. When initially introduced the service intervals were 1,500K, 5,000K and 10,000K and then every 10,000K. That equates to 1,000 miles, 3,000 miles and 6,200 miles (roughly). So an early ECU will throw up the spanner at 3,000 miles (i.e. - 2,000 after the initial, post run in service).
Later machines omit the 5,000K service and go staright from the 1,500K to one at 10,000K / 6,200 miles.
Hope that makes sense.
Good riding,
CC

Hi Chris,
Ah thats all makes sense then, no big deal then.
Thanks for clearing that up, so it will only pop up this once then?
Cheers
