DVLA V55/5 Registration Strada 1983 Spanish import

Post by Chips1953 »

I have been struggling with this for a couple of days. Checking what others had done in the "web" to get this registration sorted.
So in the end I rang the DVLA in Swansea.
Fill in form V55/5, but because the vehicles is over 10 years old, no CoC, Certificate of Conformity is needed.
They will need:
ID photocopy of Driving Licence
£55 registration fee.
£39 Vehicle Tax (1 year).
Both payable on the same cheque.
MoT Certificate issued on the Frame number.
Original Spanish Vehicle Docs, Registration doc. Which I have. This will not be returned so take a photocopy.
All sent to DVLA Swansea, SW99 1BE.
Normally 10 day turn around.

Hi Mike.
Yes the 1st thing I did was to register the bike with HMRC and I have the Registration Number from them. I didn't get a certificate as such. I got an email to say if they wanted anything else they would contact me. So as far as I am concerned they said no Tax to pay.

Have you done this then?

No, but I note that you have to declare within 14 days otherwise they fine you on a daily basis. I'm importing a bike from IoM, so did some research. No nova needed just registration.

You probably won't get an age related number, if this bothers you of course?.

I have registered two bikes via this route - you will get an age related number as you have the original Spanish registration document.

AHA!. I've done this many times too with cars and bikes, but always from the USA, I've always had to get a certificate of date of first registration and manufacture. Hadn't thought that with us being in the EU and importing a bike from the EU that the original "log book" from that country would suffice, good luck and hope it all goes smoothly.

I register one bike from Holland and one from the USA - got an age related plate for both.

With the US bike I had the original Ohio title document plus sent a picture of the frame plate that stated the year of manufacture (it was a Honda), plus a rubbing (like brass rubbing...) of the frame number, plus several photographs of the bike in the hope that they would accept is as documented and not request that I take it to one of the DVLA offices for a check which they can do if so inclined.
With the Dutch registered Morini, they accepted the Dutch registration document and associated plastic registration card (credit card sized) for the issue of an age related plate.

I've used this service before: http://dvlaadvice.co.uk/ all sorted with no hassle.
I have done it myself but was too busy last time.
