What is this in my tank?

Post by fin »

Sorry if this is a noob question...
Ive got the tank of just as part of prep for spring when I notice something rattling around inside closer examination reveals a mesh like tube roughly four inches long and as I say made from some form of metal mesh.
Im thinking a misplaced filter bit its too big and where would it fit?
Then Im thinking an additive to add a lead substitute?
I tried getting it out but gace up the petrol cap hole is too small to get any purchase on it even if you do manage to grab the thing.
Put me out my misery please.

It is without a shadow of doubt a lead free additive "thingy"! I put one in one morini years ago and nothing in another Morini to "do' a scientific test!-the conclusion was the additive was a waste of money!

You need a bendy gripper tool! On the plus side it's knocking off any rust that may form. I have been running some other bikes on lead free petrol for ages though I do use Castrol Valvemaster Plus.No idea if this is any good or not but I've never had any issues with valve recession. Not sure about the actual content of modern fuel either, but it seems to take paint off pretty well.

Sounds like a Fuel Cat. My late husband used to have one in his Constellation - stopped it pinking.
Morinis & Motorcycles - Is there anything else?

Some years ago, having heard that New Zealand's petrol is pretty poor quality, I put one in the tank of my old Yamaha RD250B. It made a hell of a difference - good, I mean - but that's a two-stroke. YMMV. I wonder if you''ll notice a difference after you've taken it out.

Hmm
I would say approx length is 4 to 5 inches is this commensurate with a filter?
