Replacing Fuel Pipe

Post by trinder »

While working on my Strada, I have noticed the fuel pipes have become hardened with age and I guess the ravages of ethanol added to modern road fuel. has any one any favored suggestion for replacement fuel pipes and what would be more resistant to ethanol?

I just get green petrol pipe e.g from Carrot Cycles but try not to touch it when it's this cold! I use small in-line filters but these never pick any muck as I have already lined the tank with POR15.

Have a look at the link/catalogue, you should be able to see the fuel pipe page, if you look to your right on the page you can click on the various translucent colours and it should give you details etc..

The above make is a recognised quality brand and are OE suppliers too. I got mine from a Trials Bike shop, but as the other message suggests, Carrot Cycles probably have this make.

I find the plastic stuff goes hard too fast and has a habit of leaking if disturbed (like taking the tank off when doing valve adjustments).

I use 7mm cotton covered hose (that's the right size for 8mm pipe stubs).

I bought a long roll cheap, I think it's VW fuel hose.

Thanks for your suggestions guys, I think I might have a go at the cotton reinforced. I discovered a quick release mechanism for taking your tank off that you fit in line with the fuel pipe which is self sealing at my local m/c shop. the only down side being that they cost £17.50(ooops not £1750  ) each and you need two for a Morini

I use the cotton reinforced hose which is easy to remove and replace when taking the petrol tank or carbs off, and doesn't lose its ability to keep a good connection. And no need for quick release mechanisms at nearly £2000 a go!
