Today I had some free time so I built up the wheels for bike #2.

Original rims were polished on the outside and soda blasted on the inside. Both had some flat spots but the wheel guy who polished them was able to push the rim back to shape. I think since this bike had a Strada seat, it was ridden two up and bottomed out the tire.
Butted & polished stainless steel spokes and stainless nipples.
Vaporblasted the hubs.

On the subject of wheels, most books teach you to lace one side at a time. The person who taught me just had me throw all the spokes in the hub at the same time and then grab two spokes to start off the pattern. Once two spokes are in, the pattern falls into place. Just make sure you don’t cross spokes over the valve. Since these rims have angled holes, it’s hard to mess up the pattern. I use some blue lock tight on the spoke threads to keep the nipples from vibrating loose and a dab of oil on the inside of the rim, at the spoke hole to let the spoke nipple turn smoothly against the rim bed. Usually a pair of wheels takes two hours, start to finish.

There is a seller on ebay who has been selling parts from an early sport. Located only an hour away. I purchased the gear shift lever for my bike from him. I noticed his engine is only 2 from mine. Unfortunately, he parted out the entire bike, piece by piece.

I just finished breaking down bike #2. I ordered up some gloss black powder to powdercoat the frame and then to Antietam classic cycle for the build.
