crank too wide??

Post by hombre »

Hi folks,

I am rebuilding an engine using Sportcases from a 77-model with a Kanguro crankshaft. It all seems to fit nicely, but for some reason the right side is sticking out a bit more than expected (see picture). Now the beltpulleys do not allign. Is it possible that the crank can move inwards (to the left) more? It looks like at least 3 mm's or so, so that seems like a lot?
I have fitted the oilpumpgear and tightened it with 6 kgm (according to the blue book, the later manual says it should be 11 kgm or so?). The crank didn't move so I don't think there's more movement to the left.

Am I missing something here? Ideas anyone?

Looks OK to me.
Here's the end of a 501 crank...not very clear I'm afraid.
Paper gasket between the cases?

Hi,
Hmmm,
I thought all the plain main, ducati ignition cranks were the same..?
Without taking my bikes to bits, I can't remember where the belt runs on the cam pulley, but I do know that it is fully on the pulley. So if the crank is indeed too far out, then perhaps you need to have a look at the drive side main bearing on not being fully home in the case? Is the steel 'keeper' flush with the cases or is it out a bit?
Regards,
George.

This looks a lot like mine. if this works okay than so should mine I reckon?

@George 350, what do you mean with the steel 'keeper', is that the ring againt the roller bearing in the left?

Btw I measured the distance from end of crank toward pulley from this one and one from an engine lying around and it's the same, so it should be okay I think. Still the pulleys aren't exactly inline.
Okay it's friday, I call it quits ;) :?
