Whats this?

Post by Quello Serio »

Can anyone tell me what this is? I think it might be a mat to go under a battery. It came in a bag of random used bits with my Sport, but doesn't fit in the battery tray.

Size is 12cm x 18cm.

It looks like the 'horrible' anti vibration pad for the fuel tank. If it is, it is in good condition for one of them.
Back in the day, Morini chose to put something like this between the tank and frame at the rear of the tank to prevent metal-metal contact, but it is probably 30 years since I junked mine in favour of 'proper' mounts, so I could be wrong.

Goes underneath the battery, hence the four holes to miss the heads of the bolts.

Thats what I thought it was, but its too wide. Maybe its from a different year/model.

Thats what I was hoping it is, because thats what I need. But now I know there are 'proper' mounts, I'll see if I can buy those instead.

Thanks!

Looks like the one from my Excalibur. If your Sport is non electric start, the batteries were smaller. I presume the battery box was deeper on the later models.

Another "Whats This?" please: mounted on the frame on the right hand side, immediately in front of a side panel. Not mentioned on my parts diagram. Or electrical diagram. Possibly something to so with the (long gone) electric Start? Given the lack of connections (one blue earth, the other two are positive power) is it fair to say that this isn't doing anything?

Thanks!

As you thought, it's the starter relay. If you don't have a starter any more it's surplus, along with the extra cables. That rubber pad looks to me like a battery pad too, If it doesn't sit neatly in your battery tray and the holes don't line up with the bolts, then a previous owner removed the large battery carrier when they dumped the starter motor.
