1975 Morini Sport Specs

Post by simonnorthroad »

Ive acquired a Spoke wheel Sport project and wonder if it's a bitsa

Frame number pegs it as a 1975 bike BUT its alloy rimmed with a front disc-brake, and the (rounded not angular)tank and side-panel shape are as-per a drum-brake Sport

Whilst Im aware a 1975 production line bike might take a year or more to come to GB and then get sold, I wonder if such a model was originally made

There is a Moto Morini sales brochure that shows such a bike. It has a front disc brake but has the same shape tank, side covers and seat as the drum brake Sport. The tank is red with black panels on the lower sides. These panels mimic the black panels on the angular-shaped tanks of the 1976 Sport (disc brake). Who knows how many they made like yours. Were they just using up the old-shape tanks and side panels (but using the new paint design)? The black panels on the side covers are larger than on the drum brake Sport. If you look at the two sets of side covers in Mepstein's thread on his drum brake Sport(s) you will see one set with these large black panels.

The bike in the brochure also has the 'early' rocker covers with the chamfered corners.

The brochure is probably on-line somewhere. (It also shows two Stradas, one in silver and black and one looking very nice in gold and black.)

Hello,
This is the first 3 1/2 sport with spokes and disk brake.
One of the most sought after!

That's the brochure. Note red hand grips. (I don't know if they did a brochure with the 'correct' 76 Sport.)

Really helpful guys, thanks.
Yes mine has the chamfered rocker covers..
Remarkably little information out there on these, even my glossy coffeetable Italian 3 1/2 book seems to skip straight from the drum-brake Sport to the angled-tank model
