I think I have a 501 Excalibur primary gear somewhere. I'll dig it out and count the teeth (must get out more).

Finally got round to it:

No obvious wear, no damage.
Just re-read previous posts and seems it's a common unit, so probably no use to you!

The first 6-gear for 500 came up with the first Camel in 81 and then was mounted in the 500 SEI in 82 and all following 500 and 501 motors without any change as far as I know.

The ratio of the primary gear is:
350: 29/66
500/501: 31/63
both with a thickness of 23 mm

The kiskstart pinions:
- 500/501 6-gear: 19 teeth
- 350: 20 teeth
- 500/250T 5-gear: 23 teeth
The rest of the kickstartemechanism is the same

I tried to resume some of the diferences between the 350/500 and 501 motor some years ago. Maybe it helps a bit although it´s in german. Most of the veryfied dates are resumed in the 4th post: http://www.ital-web.de/forum/viewtopic. ... eb&start=0

a recently had a broken tooth on a 19 teeth kickstart pinion , i was unable to find a replacement , but if you are desperate a 20 teeth pinion actually fits.

They may well be the same pitch diameter. It's a technique called profile shifting and is often done on very low tooth count gears to prevent the teeth being undercut at the root and ending up weak as a result.
