Idiot lights

Post by pedro »

Does anybody know of a source for the plastic lenses on idiot lights? I have a 1978 sport which I am currently tidying up over winter and the idiot lights are distinctly shabby, it is the type with just three fairly large oblong lenses. NLM did have some, but they wanted £40 each +vat which I was not prepared to pay for a tiny bit of plastic (They were the wrong size anyway, too small for this type of light)

This is why you need a copy of the parts book.

The part numbers are;

320123 - Green
320124 - Blue
320127 - Red

All these were showing in stock on the NLM parts list at £15 each (+vat).

I used to harvest these lenses from Excaliburs. The holders are different, but the lenses are the same.

You might be able to remove the lenses and polish them. I've found Novus plastic polish to be very good. You can pick up a set of all three grades on ebay.

Cheers Paul,
They might have been listed at £15 but £40 was what they were asking, I even asked Stuart if it was a mistake and he said they didn't sell many but if someone was doing a concours restoration, they were prepared to pay it.
These lenses are larger than the type with four lights, and NLM didn't have this type anyway only the smaller ones.
I will try Novus if no-one comes up with a source of new ones (mine are pretty rough)

I polished mine up with cotton buds and a dab of Farecla paint cutting compound.
