Hi Steve,,apart from the seat,,the 81 has a different headlight, bodywork & also twin disc front & a rear disc as opposed to a drum.
I tried a street triple before I bought the speed triple R 1050,,,I found the torque too hard to resist.cheers peter

The K Model 79-81 has a rear drum brake
The K1 82-83 has front doble disc and rear disc brake (and maybe nikasil cilinders?)
Both have the golden cast wheels.

The K2 83-87 is easily to be distinguished from the K and K1

Stealth Morini! :)

Norbert, my K1 (1982) has a standard Sport engine with S cam, Sport pistons and an 'S' stamped below the front barrel on the left AND the right hand sides! It does not have Gilardoni cylinders.

Mike.

That means that the first Gilaroni Cilinders appeared with the K2 (83-87), then in the Kanguro X2 (85-?), Camel 501 (1985-1989), Kanguro X3, Excalibur (86-89), Dart (88-89), New York (88-89) and Coguaro (88-89)

My triple-disc K1was registered in '83 but probably built in 82, it has Gilardoni cylinder barrels.

Just proves that Luigi took what's in the parts bin when building the bikes. Is it a Sport engine with the 'S' on the crankcase?

The 400k model was with the 390cc Gilardoni with the round fins. I think this was available before the K2. Our friends in Germany would know as it was for that market. I have some of these barell they are quite different to Dart 400.
The Nikasil was introduced to meet noise regulations.
KJ125 was Nikasil too.
