Dismantling early curly kickstarts

Post by simonnorthroad »

Anyone had any success dismantling the earliest 350 kickstarts, the non-displacer type with the curved 'stem'
I can't see how the pivoting top comes off, the kicking part. Possibly an inaccessible spring clip?
Mine like most needs rechroming

Not familiar with the early type.Wherecwill you get it chromed? I had some stuff done in 2008 by Doug Taylor at Weston Super Mud and it still looks A1.

Mine had a simple sprung clip/washer which I removed by lifting out one end with a small flat screwdriver. Watch out for the ball and spring detent once you pull it apart.....

Thanks Andy. Mine seems to have packing shims under a chunky collar, and (possibly) a very inaccessible spring-clip that's resistant to my charms

Simon,

Just in case it's useful I planned to send a pic of the business end of my lever showing the sprung clip sitting in the groove in the knuckle. Unfortunately I can't upload it here or in a PM :?
Can email it if you PM me with your addy.

I used my press to push down on the "chunky collar" and then the clip was easily removed using a small flat-blade screwdriver.
