not sure about the sachse system, the one on my guzzi le mans broke down
it was on the bike when i bought it ,
when it broke down i never managed to get it repaired.
after sales service may be better if you buy straight from them, but i was not impressed.
but i can vouch for getting a aftermarket ignition.
a aftermarket ignition is worth every penny...

I'm beginning to wonder if we should pull the trigger on this now as for folks in the U.K. there is only 38 days until it is no longer part of the EU, so I can imagine things will become a little uncertain.

I've spoken to Sachse, and all you need to do is email them, tell them you're part of the group buy discount scheme, what you want and where it's to be delivered and they will send you an invoice. Do not order it directly off the web page as the discount won't be applied.

Cheers,

Kamel.

Hi Andy, do you mean you're no longer interested in buying a unit, or forget about the shipping question?

Hi all,
a quick update, so far we have 9 folks who have requested a kit, so we are very close to getting 15% off. For folks based in the U.K. please consider this offer carefully, as presumably import duty will change post Brexit and there may not be such a large group wanting to buy in the future.

Hi Kamel,

Do not forget VAT will not be payable in Germany for UK purchasers...

The duty and VAT will be added here and paid to HM Government.

The question is what will that be?

I think you're mistaken there Sir. Within the E.U. VAT is charged at the local rate, and goods shipped between E.U. countries are not subject to import duty or additional VAT at the destination border. However post Brexit that will of course change, hence my recommendation to get those orders in pronto.

Exactly my point, from 1st January...

However, what will be the tariff and VAT rate applied to an electronic ignition unit? Looked at the list yet? 18,000 plus descriptions! There could be no duty only VAT. Apparently the import of old bikes has zero duty and 5% vat. In this case, if zero duty and 20% vat paid to the UK government, it may be cheaper if the German vat is higher!

The accountants are probably looking very interestingly at it, as will the UK government as the vat that previously went to Germany will now be paid here. I read an article the other day that reckoned the UK would rake in far more from vat and import duty than exporters would pay to the eu, as the UK imports more from the eu than it exports. Whether this is true or not, I do not know.

Do not forget UK left last year, this is the end of the transition period.

ps, the above is not a political statement, more of a discussion of what could happen post 1st January 2021 when buying from the eu.

Ah, sorry I thought your were referring to the current status.

After Jan 1st who knows. Hopefully stuff that is postmarked before that date will still be counted under the system as it is now.

I find marking parcels as "Vintage motorcycle parts" seems to get through ok.

Cheers,

Haha, "In full swing" I like it :D :D

I'll be honest I really wanted to try out the SWF ignition, but when I posted a thread about them yours was the only response I received, whereas I found plenty of recommendations of the Sachse system for Morini's and other bikes. And as I mentioned the thoughts of me blowing the system by accidentally reversing a connection did put me off. I know Anne has since clarified that the unit is not toast and can be repaired, but it was too late for me by then as I'd already gone ahead.

Incidentally I received my Sachse unit today, and it looks extremely well made I have to say.

Cheers,

Kamel.
