K2 (later 350) front sprocket availability
Hello! I’m looking for a front sprocket for my ‘84 K2 but everyone seems to be out of them (mdina, herdan) is there another source I can use? It’s the later version that is has the 2 flats versus the earlier splined version (or did I get this back words) like so:
https://www.mdinaitalia.co.uk/M190123.html
Also what is the standard pitch on a 1984 K2? I’m putting this bike together from parts so there are some questions.

When I got my K1 it was running 530 chain. I decided I wanted to try O or X ring chain. This meant I had to drop to 520 to get clearance around the engine sprocket.
The upshot is that there seems to be a 530 front sprocket on ebay at present. You would then have to change the rear assuming it is currently a 520.
I do not know if these will become available again which will be an issue. The K1 was the first chain driven bike I owned in 30 years, not my favourite transmission but more simple, lighter and cheap.

When I get 5 minutes I'll root around my boxes as I am sure I kept the packet mine came in. I am sure it was a JWT from Taiwan or something.

Splined are for 500s, all 350s are 2 flats.
Re: K2 (later 350) front sprocket availability
I’m not sure if this is helpful but I’ve recently converted my 1980 Strada to 520 so I have what appears to be a decent 530 chain and sprockets available. It had a clip link that was removed but may be wise to get a new clip link. Anyway, the offers there if 530 is the path chosen…

Hello all and thanks for the very helpful answers. I’ve seen a lot on 520 conversions but missed why this was beneficial in the first place (now I know it’s for crank case clearance for x or o ring chains).
I’ll keep on doing my research and I’ve DMed funsize about his chain and sprockets too.

Sorry, my packet was for a rear sprocket, a JT1022.38
Try chainsandsprockets,Co.uk for the front one. You probably need the dimensions from the Italian site in a previous post.

Great, thanks. that’s a descent price, although we’ll see how much shipping is to the US.

Re: K2 (later 350) front sprocket availability
New wrinkle then, if I was going to do a 520 conversion where would I start looking for those sprockets? Are we talking custom made at that point?
And finally since I don’t have the originals, what was the standard gearing for a 84 350? 14 and 36?

The later kanguro had 520 as standard, so look for that. No need for custom made unless you want a different size.R1100purist wrote: ↑31 Mar 2022 16:18 New wrinkle then, if I was going to do a 520 conversion where would I start looking for those sprockets? Are we talking custom made at that point?

Standard gearing was 14t and 38t. If you went 36 you'd find top gear almost useless.

Mdina have the front sprocket in stock in a 520:
https://www.mdinaitalia.co.uk/M190138.html
And this is the rear sprocket I fitted to my K1 when I converted to 520: in a 39 tooth.

Definitely worth going to a 520 chain if you’re replacing chain and sprockets anyway.

Re: K2 (later 350) front sprocket availability
Awesome thanks again for the replies and gentle corrections re: appropriate sprocket size. Hopefully this coming conversation can help others who are new to the world of morini.
Morini tom, do you notice significantly higher revs or does your 1 tooth out back not make a huge difference?

Re: K2 (later 350) front sprocket availability
Also 96 link chain even with a 39 tooth rear sprocket?
Re: K2 (later 350) front sprocket availability
96 links will do with 39 tooth.
You notice every tooth. To tear well a 38 plate, the motor must be in good condition. Some years I used up to 40 with my 350 to enjoy the 6th gear. I´m not so interested in a super high speed score reached after 1 mile pulling.
Since years I wear 14/39 also with a 501 in street model frames and quite satisfied.
