Rear Brake Shoes

Good morning all!
My rear brake (1980 mag wheel Strada) seems ok but, somewhat spooked by the ATG stories I’m looking to overhaul/check it out. Is relining the way forward or are replacements shoes still available and if so does anyone know the numbers? I got a set of Galfers off flea bay for stock last year but they clearly aren’t correct
TIA

Many thanks I’ll take a look. Does anyone know if there’s an EBC equivalent number as my ace local dealer stocks piles but can’t confirm if he’s got any without a number

And I was only in M&P on Friday, buying a new helmet in the sale.

If you look on the ebc website a pair of shoes is mentioned complete with dimensions. It says they are for the Sport. I believe the Sport had a bigger rear drum, but not sure. Try googling morini 350 rear brake shoes.

I think the rear drum on Sport and Strada are the same.

I have been looking at new shoes same as op I am spooked by the stories of the linings coming off. EBC 921 seems to be the right one the website says it's for 1980 onwards.

According to the parts manual, the cast wheels are the same. On wire wheels, the hubs and brake shoe part numbers are different between the sport and strada. However, the cast wheel and Sport wire wheel appear to share the same part number.
Looks like funsize has cast wheels...

Thanks for the confirmation Mickey (and fastmongrel), I did put ‘mag’ wheels in the OP but that might not be the best word to describe them. Still, the community comes up trumps for me as usual, thanks

It definitely good to check the brakes for these kind of issues especially now most of these in the UK are no longer subject to an annual inspection.
The sizes are as follows
The homolgation A/1 etc define the brake dimensions for Standard machines.
Rear drum cast wheel A/3 and K sport or Strada are 180mm
Rear drum cast wheel 250 2C and 250T are 160mm
Rear drum wire wheel A/1 and A/3 Sport 180mm
Rear drum wire wheel A/2 Strada 160mm
Rear drum wire wheel A/3 Strada 180mm
160mm are very common in the market, 180mm less common.
So you will need 180mm shoes for a 1980 A/3 Strada or a 1980 on K strada
So the EBC 621 will not be correct I would double check before ordering.

Time to take my cast rear wheel out and measure the drum.

Been looking at M&P. They don't give too much information to give confidence they fit your particular bike. Another alternative is to use Villiers Services brake shoe relining service. Cheaper than M&P too.

I can confirm it's a 180mm drum on my 81 Strada with cast wheels

Is the shoe on the left delaminating?
