Engine woodruff Keys puzzler

Post by simonnorthroad »

Stripping down a 350 motor. Ive got the primary gears off but I cant shift EITHER the chunky rectangular woodruff-key from its home in the crank nose on the primary side or the much smaller half-moon woodruff key on the other side. They have to be a good fit I know. Ive tried exploratory taps on the end and sides but its not being shocked clear, and the smaller one won't 'seesaw' out as they usually do by tapping either end of it

That is a nuisance. Has it been out previously? Any evidence of loctite? Guess very local heat might work?

I think I have a spare key, if needed.
