I put 360 miles on one today during the National Rally.

The range was 220 miles at 65mpg. The handling is superb. It does 60mph at about 4,000 rpm. There are some vibes but not uncomfortable. The screen is good, except it needs to be wider as it causes buffeting.

Two photos. One of the Howgills the other at the top of the Hartside Pass. Had the road to myself, what a pleasure. Sorry about the sideways view.

Lots of interest in the bike.

Sounds good, it'd be interesting to compare the vibes between the x-cape and my Honda CBR500R which has harsh vibrations between roughly 3K and 4K rpm. I ended up riding down the non-autoroute roads to visit Ming in central France and after several hours of living almost exclusively in this rev-range on the long straight roads between the many and various minor towns it got to the point the bike was no longer a pleasure to ride. That said it can easily do 90mpg and on that trip was probably closer to 100mpg with an overall average speed of 45 mph (which includes lots of going slowly at 30kph in the towns, then between 50 and 55 mph on the open roads, French speed limits are lower than in the UK...

PS: on UK A and B roads with curves in them the CBR500R is much nicer to ride. I blame the Romans for the straight dot-to-dot like roads in the flatlands of France.

What else did the Romans ever do for us? Sorry, it is a Norman castle in the picture.

I cruised at 30, 40, 50, 60 and 70 MPH and did not find the vibrations intrusive. I doubt the fuel economy will ever get to 90mpg, however the Honda has 48hp, I believe, the X-Cape 60. The power delivery up to 5,000 rpm is more than adequate. I expect the CBR will be lighter. The Morini has a steel tank under the plastic fairing.

I think it may be better to compare the X-Cape to the CB500X. Similar price, too.

Well, I rode the X-Cape out on some of the roads around Louth last week during the MRC track day.

The bike didn't feel heavy at all, and had good acceleration, handling and comfort. I raised the screen and revved it to about 6,000 in each gear. It's not a replacement for the Granpasso, but it's a good machine.

More in the next edition of ATG, editor permitting - I guess that he'd also like to hear from Mike!

Good riding,

A similar weight, speed and range as my R100RS.Not bad for £900 including panniers.
Sold because the faster you went the better it felt. Until you tried to stop quickly.
So on balance a very tempting bike. Gold wheels look good.

Thats all my RS cost, not too many years ago. Big K series are hard to sell. I am determined to get a test ride on an Xcape before long.

Just checking, was it a K100RS? or an R100RS as you'd previously posted?

Anyway, I'd be tempted to have a K100RS at some point if only I had much more garage space... I already have an R80/7 and I owned first an R100RT and then an R100RS back in the 1980's

I would. Just had a 125 mile jaunt on one and it rides well. I must say, the handling is exceptional and really confidence-inspiring. The screen needs to be a bit wider, but there is a touring screen. The fairing is too good in this warm weather. It has been a perfect biking day today, but there was little breeze through my summer jacket. I even took it off road on 12 miles of gravel. It probably needs the protection bars for tomfoolery like this. Mr Brown, can I join the off raod Morini group?

There are a few options in the menu for road and off road, but no idea what they do. I presume the dirt ones allow the ABS to be turned off.

I rocked up at a place for lunch and the people running the place were from Sam West's sponsor.

Agree, this has to be tried. May mean going over the border into no mans land for me. Last new bike was in 1981 so about time. What sort of fuel consumption are you getting? What is the service interval?
I am not thinking of going off road as such but our many lanes are sufficiently degraded to require decent suspension and handling.
Main problem is which bike to sell to make room.(this ought to be obvious to me)

Very good! Made me chuckle. :)

My only concern would be that John would have nowt to complain about and therefore nothing to write about.
