Matching rare early type VALENTINI Seat and Sidepanels for the first series Moto Morini 350cc Sport. In very good condition, no cracks, but no key for the seat available: 125 euro's

350 and 500 cast wheel, and 350 Sport wire wheel rear sprockets, 38 up to 42 teeth, and 530 size. All still good in flesh, some barely used. Front sprockets are now sold!

15 euro's for rear, and 5 euro for front sprocket Who comes first, serves first, and gets the best set!!

Hello Tom,
I have a 1980 350 Strada that I am sorting out. When I removed the rear wheel I discovered the chain was warn out and the sprockets are definitely worn. These items are standard i.e.
38 and 14. I think a 40 rear might be a better ratio, but I'm not familiar enough with this machine yet to know if that would be a better all around ratio? So, I saw your page in the forum and wondered if any of these sprockets or still available? I live on the east coast of the states, so would have to factor in shipping, if we do business. Thanks in advance. My mane is Talbot.

Have a read of this extract from an article by the late Martin Gelder...
When I bought the bike I inherited a spare, and brand new, chain which was the correct length on paper but a couple of links too short in practice. As I'd run out of adjustment with the chain that was on the bike, something had to be done. A dental inspection of the teeth on the sprockets confirmed that a previous owner had lowered the gearing by fitting a two-tooth larger rear sprocket. Hmmm. Before finding this out I'd convinced myself that the gearing needed lowering, but this set me thinking. A bit of work with a calculator showed that by going back to standard gearing, I'd get end up with sixth gear feeling noticeably higher, but I'd get slightly more rpm per mph in fifth than I currently had in sixth, which was what I wanted to achieve [Does this make sense? MG]. First gear would be a bit taller, but that wasn't really a problem, and I couldn't help feeling that Morini must have chosen the original ratios for a reason.

So on with a new pair of standard sprockets (38 and 14 teeth rather than 40 and 14) and suddenly the new chain is the right size, and I have enough movement in the adjusters to get the tension right. I was so pleased I even cleaned the rear brake calliper and pistons.
Higher gearing shouldn't be better, but is.

My hunch about the gearing was right. Top gear is now a motorway and dual carriageway overdrive, but fifth has become a really useful general gear with enough punch for overtaking without having to scream the engine. And because the spread between the gears has been opened out, the bike actually feels more tractable. I was really surprised how much difference this made, particularly at Cadwell Park where the gearing now seemed "right" for more corners, more of the time. Don't believe people when they tell you that dropping the gearing will make your bike faster; for me and my Morini, the opposite was true.

Hi Tom,
I think I will stay with the standard gearing at this time. What I wanted to change was first gear-it's like riding my old trials bike-and second on up are just fine.
You have been very helpful and I thank you. There are very few Morini's where I live, let alone anyone who knows what they are. Oh well, thanks again and happy riding-I hope the snow is gone soon. Smiles,Talbot

Okidoki! You did had snow Talbot, we didn't see any winter this year, and had 18 Celsius in February already!
But maybe this is, looking at were we are in the world, like comparing apples with peers as we say here in the low countries, beneath sea level :wink:

Drove home from the Scottish Motorcycle Show in a blizzard last night! Snow above 300 metres (1000 feet) today... Not a problem in NL! :)
