Left side handle bar switch unit

Post by mikeybizzle »

Any one out there have a spare unit for an early eighties 3.5 sport as the casing is badly damaged on mine from careful use by a previous owner . Coming to the end of a re-paint and general tidy up of this summer purchase so would like to get it back on the road again .

Hi Mike.
The original CEV switches do come up on eBay from time to time - worth searching for Ducati switch also. If you aren't really bothered about 100% originality, then the switchgear from the Honda NSR 125 from around 1988 -2003 is a good replacement and arguably a lot better as it is a lot more waterproof and is a lot better ergonomically.
See [url]http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Honda-Nsr-125 ... %253A6[url]
as an example. A very similar switch is available new from Disco Volante, but at a cost of nearly £80. If you choose to go this route I can send you the wiring details. I have had this switch on my bike for nearly 8 years now and would never go back.
Regards, George.

NLM have Ser 2 switch set at a rather expensive £93.00 plus VAT. I bought one this week but had to return it as it was the wrong plug type for older type switch.

Hi George,
I have the same problem except it was not the previous owner who mullered it, but myself I'm afraid. I overtightened it and the old plastic shattered.
Did you mean that you are running the Disco Volante switch or the Honda one? The Honda one is readily available and cheap, is the wiring fairly straightforward.

Hi Pedro. I'm running the Honda switches.
If you look through the older posts for NSR125 switch wiring, (viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2562#p12634) then all should be explained. It is an easy job.
Ps: in case you didn't see the ATG article, you will need to file off the switch to 'bar locating peg in the switch.
Waterproof multipin connectors are available from vehicle wiring products for a reasonable price.
Hope that this helps.
George.

Thanks for the replies , now all I have to do is decide which way to go with the switch (no pun intended)

I have had a new CEV switchblock from a Ducati for a while but have not fitted it as I'm unsure which of these compromises to settle for:

A) I will have to match up the colours Ducati used with my Morini's. No idea what Duc it came from.
B) That would mean a lot of splicing in the sub-loom between switch and main loom or just fitting their coloured wires to a new switchblock.
C) It is seemingly impossible to unsolder the wires at the switch and simply resolder my wires.

So, an impasse ....
