Camel fork slider
Camel fork slider
Does anyone have a right hand fork slider for a drum brake Camel? Marzocchi leading axle, 38mm leg. I'd consider a complete set of forks from a drum or disc brake bike, and I assume that Kanguro forks would fit.
Mine has cracked and then broken around the torque arm bolt leading to a locked front brake and then a face plant. Fortunately it was whilst trail riding so the landing wasn't too hard.

Hi, I don't have the part that you are looking for, but do you mean the part that holds the axle in place? It's -apparently- 100% magnesium. I had one welded last year by a specialist.
Kanguro's have 35 mm forks if I am not mistaking. You could consider Excaliburforks, they have the same length as Mk II and III Camels, damping is much softer though and the innertube's material is thinner.
ps I always wanted to do motocross as a kid because when you fall off the landing is softer

Or even KTM, I have one on my Mk I, much longer, but the lower legs are the same

Re: Camel fork slider
Hi, only the Mk1 Camels have magnesium fork sliders so I would try and get a later one which are made of alloy yet have the same dimensions (but the fork legs are shorter).
Many Italian bikes used Marzocchi enduro/trail 38mm forks so it should be possible to get one; many have a smaller spindle hole but that is an easy fix.
Good luck in the quest, regards Ian
PS Although some trail Guzzis used similar 38mm sliders/forks albeit with a disc brake, they also used 38mm forks that had bushes at the top of the slider/bottom of the fork leg.

the V65 TT has the same sliders, no bushes to be seen (i've got one, i'm very familiar with the inside, mine consumed oil seals at a amazing high rate .....)'It must be a .....' wrote: PS Although some trail Guzzis used similar 38mm sliders/forks albeit with a disc brake, they also used 38mm forks that had bushes at the top of the slider/bottom of the fork leg.
i upgraded the forks, i might even have the old forks somewhere in the back of the shed,
but as i said, they are pretty worn out.

Re: Camel fork slider
Hi, yes the V65TT has no bushes, yet the later 650/750 NTX have 38mm forks with bushes; just flagged it up as I almost bought a pair of these sliders for my Camel at a jumble but fortunately noticed the internal difference.
Re: Camel fork slider
Thanks for all suggestions and advice. Time to start scouring eBay. I'll let you know how I get on.
Re: Camel fork slider
Do you mean all the drumbrake Camels? Not the 501's? I have a Mk I and Mk II in the shed and they are the same for as far as I can see.'It must be a .....' wrote:Hi, only the Mk1 Camels have magnesium fork sliders so I would try and get a later one which are made of alloy yet have the same dimensions (but the fork legs are shorter).

Re: Camel fork slider
Hi Hombre, yes the MkI and MkII sliders look the same yet the MkI sliders are magnesium and the MkII sliders are alloy; as are later 500 Camel forks (38mm), although the final 500 Camels had a disc brake.
All 501 Camels have 40mm forks but with differences between models; sliders, brake, total length, travel etc.

Re: Camel fork slider
Ah okay, good to know, thanks! The ones I had fixed are on a MkII Camel now and I have an equal pair for a future restoration of an Mk I but they have the same crack as the ones now fixed. I'll tell my welder he needs new equipment, again
