350 Sport (K2, 1983 model): Brake caliper nuts & bolts

Post by BobPickett »

Hi, my names Bob, I'm new to the forum. I inherited a 1983 K2 350 Sport. Sadly it's been sitting around for a while and has needed some parts replacing. Think I'm about there, but the bolts and nuts on both brake calipers are looking VERY tired, to the point I'm not sure they'll pass MOT.

I've tried Mdina Italia, but the parts are not listed in the catalogue! I did look up some online schematics... and the brake calipers are just shown as the caliper with the bolts inserted! Clearly they were never meant to wear out...

I also need to get new bleed nipples and a brake lever pivot bolt (previous owner took a torque wrench to it and it's chewed up).

I've added pix, in case this is useful. for the top caliper bolt and the pivot bolt.

Does anyone know where, outside of Mdina Italia, I could buy the above? All help really appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Bob

The lever pivot will be a Grimeca part so maybe something from another bike will fit? I do have some bits and bobs like that but it will be about three weeks before I can get at the shed to check, sorry!
The other thing is the bits in my shed will all be used bits and no guarantee they are any better than yours. If you know someone with a lathe it may be easier to get some new bits made perhaps?
The stepped caliper bolt doesn't look too bad to me, what's wrong with it? Apart from no 2mm spacer in view?

Oh yes, welcome to the forum!

Hi Steve,

Thanks for getting back to me. Oddly, I thought the thread looked OK, but I've had a couple of people mention it. The Sport has gone to a classic bike rebuilder local to me: He reckons he can tidy up that pivot bolt, otherwise he could fashion a new one if he can't source a spare from his contacts. He is also going to check the brake caliper nuts/bolts - again, he can fashion if needed (I've told him this might be a nice earner; if Mdina Italia hasn't got them, then could be very useful).

Thank you for the welcome!

Cheers,

Bob
