M7 tap and drill for replacement clutch stud

Post by ringer »

I have managed to remove my spinning clutch stud, and have a replacement stud purchased from NLM. Can anyone confirm for me the thread pitch for the tap that I would need, and also the pre-tap drill size? I believe that I need a 6.0mm drill and a M7x1.0 2nd tap. Am not sure about whether they are still available to borrow from the club, but I can buy a tap on ebay for £5 which is good enough for me. The drill bit is no problem. Would someone who has completed this task also tell me what needs to be done once the thread is tapped and the stud fitted - do you need to peen the end of the stud to fix it in place? How did you do that? And will there be any part of the stud that will protrude out of the back of the clutch that will need grinding/machining flat?
