Bigend shells

Post by morini_tom »

Does anybody have, or know of a source for new bigend shells for the 500?

My 501 rebuild has come to a halt as I can't get new shells! I managed to find a brand new crank and the unobtainable main bearing (Thanks Hermy!), but no bigend shells.

Being a new crank I need standard size shells, although if oversize shells turn out to be the only option then I guess I'll have to sacrifice a crank life.

I work for MAHLE so am in the process of seeing if they can help, but knowing if there are any other engines with the same size shells would be a good starting point.

I had my conrods measured on the CMM at work- 38.1mm housing, which is 1.5". Why on earth would Morini have used a 1.5 inch bigend shell (on a 35mm journal)

I'd be interested in whatever you find.
I've got a 500 needs a rebuild.

Because they were made in the US by Federal Mogul probably.
