Morini 500 Battery

Post by Glovers500 »

Hi Guys, I 'm a new member and a new owner, so I'm looking for advice and some local Morini Riders. Firstly, the advice; can someone advise me what Battery I should get for my 1980 500/6 import. The top yoke states sport but I dont know enough about the bred to say otherwise.
Bike came without keys but I'm having new ones cut, so armed with Keys and a Battery, I will soon see if shes a runner or otherwise.
On the topic of riding the bike, its parked up near Bridport at the mo but I live near Sandhurst, so would welcome new contacts at either end.
Speak soon, my new amigos...cheers Paul :D

If you intend to have an effective electric start, then fit the highest cranking amp rated battery that will comfortably fit in the space available, the actual Ah capacity is of secondary importance.
Clean and service the starter. It needs to be in tip top condition. If the starter drum has had 'pop' marks added to it, use an abrasive to remove them.

If you or a previous owner has abandoned the electric foot, then something around 9Ah is about right.

The battery has nothing to do with the ignition.

I use a PC680 Odyssey on my 350 with a starter motor.It can work!
You may find the links section in http://morinist.dk/morini/engelsktornerose.php
worth a look.
I'm down the road a bit from Bridport but am often around that part of Dorset-a very sensible county.

I too have fitted an Oddesy very expensive battery to my 500-and fitted a new worm drive e.t.c.-but still when cold and stiff [especially this weather] the engine will not spin fast enough!! Once started on that awful kickstarter and warm the "button" works! Alan J.

My 500 starter motor has never worked. I have a 24AH battery installed. I have had the thing in bits, adjusted the chain, emery'd the shoes - nowt worked.

Today I took the cover off the bike to prepare for the road and removed the by now flat battery. I replaced it with the 18AH Varta from the Kanguro to test the electrics so decided to try the starter - hey presto - started first hit of the button..... not bad considering it's been under cover since the autumn....

I'll look for another Varta.

Gotta love yer Morini!!!
