Motobatt MBTX30U battery

Post by morinipete »

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone has experience of fitting one of these to a 500 ? I want to put one in, but the dimensions seem extremely borderline given the tight space available. The MBTX30U is listed as a direct replacement for the standard 12N24, but even the (dead) battery I have in now (a Yuasa or some such) needs a good boot to get it in (and even more manipulation to get it out again). Millimeters matter and I'm worried the Motobatts stated dimensions of 166 x 126 x 175 are a tad too big. Can anyone tell me otherwise ?

Cheers

Pete
PS. My 500 is an 82 'Sei', but I reckon all the 500 frames are the same, at least as regards battery space.

I have a MB9U on my 1975 350 Strada and it was a tight fit think I had to take
the right side panel off and work it in from there but it's about 2 years back so not sure,
maybe the 500 is different.

I put a 13Ah Odyssey in a late 500 Sei (26Ah stock). I had to make a new small battery tray.

Hi thanks, yeah there are plenty of options for physically smaller batteries I can fit, but I want to maximise the size if possible. I'm not too bothered about the excess weight as this is just my touring bike (though it will have to 'tour' Cadwell in a week :) ) .

Cheers
