Tuning 500 strada

Post by Eric »

Hi,
Looking to get a bit more power, without spoiling the bikes smooth manners.
Mainly to do with motorway riding, keeping up with modern bikes.
Whats possible, and whats not advisable.

Hi Eric,
regardless of where you are, your first port of call should be NLM as they have already spent many years experimenting and know and sell what is good and bad. Short answer, there may be a hot cam you can fit but never replace the original airbox arrangement with K&Ns or similar pod filters. A good tune-up often works wonders.
Cheers,
Dom

Playing devil's advocate, I'd accept, and enjoy, the 500 for what it is. If you want to keep up with modern bikes, perhaps one of the new generation Morinis might be more appropriate.

A 3 1/2 will happily cruise all day at the motorway speed limit, with plenty in reserve, and on my 500 (501), I have to back off the throttle after it's romped up to 100 (on my private drive).

Enjoy it! Mark.
