Front wheel bearing and that pesky speedo drive

Post by Tim »

Hi folks
my first post on the site and a query that's been dealt with before but I couldn't find an answer to my particular issue.
I've changed wheel bearings a few times so know the routine but I cant see how the right hand bearing comes out. There seems to be an alloy centre to the speedo drive (not the cover that connects to the speedo cable) that sits in front of the bearing, but I cant tell if the bearing is supposed to push it out, or if there is some other way of removing it prior to drifting the bearing out of its recess. If it helps I'll post a photo
all help gratefully received

There's no spacer, just drive the bearing out.

It doesn't hurt to scrape out any burrs and warm the hub.

DO NOT REMOVE THE SPEEDO DRIVE!
There's no need. They're easy to break and not available NOS as far as I'm aware.

Ah I get it - it has to come all the way through the middle of the speedo drive - crikey thats going to take some drifting out and back in again!

Thanks for the advice Paul
